Is Wireworking a Niche?

I totally stink at marketing, but I know the one thing I hear again and again is to "market to your niche". I don't have a set style or mood I follow, but the vast majority of my jewelry involves wire, so I'm wondering if that actually IS a niche. If so, how do I use that for marketing?

I have been on Zazzle and CafePress for years and always had trouble with marketing, especially since I'm so bloody eclectic that I have no niche, or too many, depending on how you look at it. If I had any clue how to do niche marketing I might try. Right now I'm just using social networks and such to try to drive traffic, but what I really want is sales. I keep reading that this niche thing will get you lookers who buy rather than just looking and leaving.

Any tips or info is appreciated, and I will not be offended if you give me the "for dummies" version. Marketing is just one of those things I've yet to fit into my head. Though as I hear, it's a problem for a lot of us creative types ;)

Re: Is Wireworking a Niche?

You absolutely mussst toot your horn about creating "hand-crafted jewelry"..."artisan jewelry"....and being a "wire wrapper". That is exactly what sets you apart from mass produced ...dare I say....junk jewelry.
Facebook is great for advertising; do you have a like page? There are plenty of post friendly fb pages (like wire geeks!) that allow you to post your works and show off, draw more traffic to your page. Look in my likes at Wire Geeks for some ideas of pages to post on. Not other jeweler pages, but large group pages, like magazines, fashion pages and such.
I hear Twitter is good too, haven’t yet squeezed it into my own schedule, but I know it is also a very handy tool.
Also locally, you seem to have craft show friendly prices, have you tried any of those? I bet you would do well. I am on an Etsy team for my area of North Alabama, they actually throw craft shows and it does very well. I wonder if you have an etsy team for your area.
Be sure when you try any of these avenues, you are very clear that you are an ARTIST, that is why you are special, people appreciate that....not everyone....but your market will, and that is who you want draw in. Zone in on those folks. When you get skilled about explain your works and some confidence you may want to try setting up a couple wholesale accounts with local boutiques or doing consignment with them.
Good luck to you, be sure and stop by our team page and post a pic for us admire ;-)

Briana - I just took a look at your very cute shop. What I see are colorful, longer earrings that combine colors and unique wire-wrapping designs. that's a niche.
