What is your minimum order and how did you decide on your number?
Thanks!

Re: Minimu order?

I sort of estimated how much my items were at wholesale and what I would need to make in order to make it worth it for me.You could also have two minimums- one for units and one for monetary, and let them choose whichever is less.
Another thing people do is have a higher $ first time min then a lower repeat min.

Im actually quite flexible, and let people know that. I ask what they are interested in and then go from there. I usually stick to the rule that they should be getting about a dozen of anything for me to think about it.

Also, there are a few standards that I noticed, for instance, I noticed that minimums werent into the $1000's for my sort of caliber of jewelry. If I were a bigger company then that might be possible Maybe you can look around and compare your kind of products with others?

How are YOU arriving at your minimum?

Re: Minimu order?

I was thinking about it from that perspective too. How much would I want to make to make it worth while. I arrived at $100. I feel like that might be too high for some smaller boutiques I've contacted. I also had a minimum amount of an item but didn't know how that would work with buyers.
I don't want to sound like I don't know what I'm talking about either but I guess being flexible is okay?
Thanks!

Re: Minimu order?

Honestly, I dont have tons of experience. I do know what Im talking about, and understand how it all works, and have a system in place. I have several accounts now, so I feel confident. But when I started brand new, I would just say flat out " Im new at this, so please bear with me while I learn". And everyone was great about it. I did risk that they wouldnt be understanding, but Im an artist, they know that- and if they couldnt handle me learning the business aspect, then they could go fry an egg. But I was lucky, and everyone I work with is amazing.

Re: Minimu order?

I tend to make the minimum order based on my current situation and the buyer who inquires. Another words if I am not busy and notice that the buyer may also be a small business person, I will make my minimum very low. Why not? Since I have the time and it may lead to a larger order down the road.
When it comes to wholesale, I try to keep my options open.

Re: Minimu order?

I have worked with mostly small boutiques so I keep my minimum small just $50. Usually people order double that and then several of the boutiques have ordered again so it has worked for me.

Re: Minimu order?

Another way to try and come up with a number is to set up a very nice display of your work, like a store would merchandise it. That amount plus some backstock would be your opening order. If you make your opening order too small their display will not pack a punch and may not sell well, thus, not re-order.

I would rather make my opening order larger and my re-order small. I want my first impression in the store to be a grand one! You can still be flexible of course. I help buyers out by creating a beginner package for my kitchen items. It comes with everything they need to make a plump display of all my current and best selling items.

Re: Minimu order?

This is a cut and paste of part of my standard wholesale info email:

"I have tried to make the wholesale process as simple as possible. I only ask that you purchase a minimum of at least 10 items worth at least $150. This can be a mix or match between any of the items in my store. Once you meet the minimums you qualify for a 50% discount. So, 50% OFF if your order has at least 10 items in it AND has a value of greater than $150 USD after your 50% discount. You need to hit both minimums."

It is worth it to me if we are talking about what would be a $300.00 retail order.

Re: Minimu order?

I figured out 6 was a decent number to break even and slightly above where I am not underselling myself.
