Hello everyone! Introduction post

My partner and I just moved to Birmingham from Utrecht, the Netherlands (before that I lived in the States and he lived in London). I'm a scientist and I just started a post-doc at the University of Birmingham. I create hand-burnished art prints and stationary with a scientific theme.

Totally new to England, and Birmingham, and still relatively new to Etsy since we had the shop closed for so long while we moved so any suggestions or tips or hints would be great - (non etsy related also welcome! Been to Birmingham? where's your fav place to eat? etc)

Cheers

Hi Cassandra!

Welcome to Birmingham! Your work is absolutely beautiful and really unusual!

I live in Birmingham city centre so here's some of my favourite places:

- The Ikon Gallery - conceptual art gallery, some amazing (and some very odd!) work, really nice shop, brilliant cafe
- The Victoria - a cool pub which does good food, great cocktails and has a range of nights including comedy, gigs, djs etc
- Bodega - great Mexican, also does brilliant cocktails and a nice range of South American beers
- The Sun on the Hill - my favourite pub! It gets a wide range of people in, does cheap, good food and has friendly (and very good looking) staff
- The Custard Factory - a little out of town in Digbeth, this has a range of independant shop units and also houses cafes, a theatre and gig space, club nights, vintage clothing fairs, all sorts!
- Ashas - amazing Indian restaurant, pretty up-market
- The Pen Room - ace little museum in the Jewellery Quarter, with very enthusiastic volunteer staff and lots of interesting things to look at

Hope that's helpful!

Re: Hello everyone! Introduction post

Thanks for the advice Sarah!

We've already been to the Custard Factory on the hunt for second-hand and vintage furniture. Didn't find any that we liked but did find the Yumm Cafe which was delicious. Hoping to make it over there for one of their market days soon.

I don't know of any good antique or vintage furniture places in Birmingham, but if either of you drive it's well worth a trip to the flea markets at the Three Counties Showground. It's around an hour from Birmingham.
