video game tagging

Hey guys, recently my view have went to 50-180 a day to almost none! I'm talking around 20 views. So I am going through changing tags. Not sure what has happened here. Guess I still haven't found a good way to tag. I've read all I can about tagging and seo and all that complicated junk, in which everything I have read had conflicting answers. i also changed my category from geekery to jewelry, in hopes that my items would be seen more.

How do you guys tag your video game items?
do you use the word 'gifts' in your tags? what about a few times in the same listing? Such as : fun gifts, gifts, unique gifts, geeky, retro, gamer, nintendo, nes, video game, gamer gifts, geeky gifts

Is this repetitive? I heard 2 word phrasing was the best way to go, as something with the tag of 'gamer gifts' would show up before an item with the two seperate tags 'gamer' and 'gift'.
So is it more efficient to use the 2 word phrases and keep repeating the same word? or would it be better to use all the words by themselves, then also have a tag that just says 'gifts' or 'gift'?
And if you have the phrase 'nintendo earrings' in your title, is it really necessary to also have that as a tag?

I have read literally hundreds of things about this, and have also read what Etsy has to say about it, and they still do not answer these questions. Not even with the 'guides' Etsy has.

Gonna post this in my other gaming teams to to try to find out, all theories and opinions, facts, advice, is welcome. I keep flip flopping with my tags, not good! Starting to think NOBODY knows the real facts about these things, Etsy will only give generic answers nothing specific, I see generic answers over and over and over again. Help!

Re: video game tagging

I definitely wouldn't use just 'gift' - that would be for if someone searches for just the term 'gift'. It is not specific enough. What are the chances that someone searching for just 'gift' would also want a video-game themed gift?

Instead, I'd try something like:
nintendo gift
gamer gift

... and also, try typing something like "gamer" into the search bar. When I type "gamer g"... it starts autocompleting as "gamer gift" and "gamer girl" - so, "gamer girl" would also be a great tag!

And yes you can repeat one word in multiple tags, like "gamer gift" and "nintendo gift" - it's okay to repeat the word "gift" in that sense. Because those are two separate phrases.

So definitely do all your tags as phrases, none as single words.
