Lol I love your rant here is something that I encountered the other day. and I was insulted to say the least.
I got an email and it was stated THINGS A WAITER WONT TELL YOU.
We can't always eat at home, but when we do eat out, there are a few things you should know about that restaurant you are dining at.
1.A waiter is not allowed to tell customer that they dislike a certain dish. If you do ask about a dish they do not like, they will often say something like "It is one of our most popular dishes."
2.If it says "homemade" on the menu, it probably is, however, it could be homemade at a local bakery a few miles away.
3.A huge pet peeve is when one person decides to order water for everyone at the table and at the end of the meal half of them aren't even touched.
4.If you're having an emotionally charged conversation at your table and it seems that other servers are coming by to refill your water or take away plates then you can pretty much assume that they are trying to hear what is going on.
5.Bathroom cleanliness is usually a good indicator of kitchen cleanliness.
THIS WAS MY RESPONSE:
On today's newsletter I was extremely insulted by the message you provided to your readers. I would steer clear from informing the public of things that you know nothing about. First off of the messages in this "informant" post could not be further from the truth!
1) A waiter is ALWAYS allowed to tell the truth! We are not taught to lie. If someone asks about a certain dish that we do not like (and may not be very popular) we will 9 times out of 10 tell them! I usually say that it is not one of my personal favorites, you may want to choose from another option on the menu. Or (seeing as I don't like fish and I get asked about it all the time) I will tell them unfortunately I am not the best person to ask because I am not a fish eater but I will say it is one of our top sellers (BECAUSE IT IS) and others seem to love it!
2) At a restaurant everything is made in that restaurant EVERYTHING (that's why we go out to eat.. so we don't have to cook, they do) unless it is like a 20 layer double decker chocolate raspberry swirl fudge cream cheese pound cake - then credit is given to the bakery that the restaurant may have got it from. (sometimes you may have to ask)
3) I TOTALLY AGREE if you go out to eat with 12 of your family members or friends NOT EVERYONE WANTS WATER let uncle bob order for himself so you don't hurt his ego..please plus think about your server for one moment (i know its hard but try really really hard) that's 12 waters + 12 different sodas + a couple beers or glasses of wine = RIDICULOUS tell me why 12 people need roughly 24+ glasses on their table!? Unbelievable
4) We could give 2 ships what you are talking about. We want your money. Thanks. We live off your monetary tips, we do not thrive on your "emotionally charged" conversations. Most of us are college students or have multiple other jobs or incredibly crazy social lives we are thinking about and more focused on than what you are talking about. The only thing that we go out of our way to do is keep your glasses full and clean your dishes, guess why....THAT'S WHAT YOU PAY US FOR. It is our job and in most restaurants It is mandatory to keep glasses above half full and clean tables or else we get reprimanded for it. If you want more privacy than that STAY HOME.
5) What is this about cleanliness in the bathroom = clean in the kitchen? Sorry to disappoint but we do not piss on our kitchen floor. Bathrooms have hundreds of people coming in and out of them every night it is up to customers to clean up after themselves... or it should be! Typically we really hate cleaning your pee off the floor and poop off the toilet seat. And we steer clear from that...WHY? BECAUSE WE HANDLE YOUR FOOD. That is why bathrooms are DIRTY because most customers are dirty, lazy and just down right disgusting. That is why the kitchen is EMPLOYEE ONLY.
Overall you insisted that servers are nosy little liars that are unclean, WHATEVER we are your sons, your daughters, and your friends. The majority tell the truth and could careless about your personal lives. It is our job to serve you and make you happy. So instead of filling someones head with the messages from today's newsletter maybe that topic should be rethought.
