Shipping Patterns Internationally

Right now, I only have my pattern listings set for the USA, but I want to start sending them worldwide. What amount do you charge for Canadian or international shipping? I don't have a scale so it is hard to estimate online.

Are there any countries that you can't ship patterns to? Do you just write "sewing pattern" on the customs form?

I use stamps.com to do International. I'm assuming that you will be taking them to the post office. The rates I charge take into account the cost of Labels and envelopes. Most patterns (except the large format Vogue) in a padded envelope weigh just over 2 oz. which means postage is calculated at 3oz.. You may want to see if the post office would let you bring some in during a slow period to check them. or ask around to see if anyone you know has a scale that you can borrow for a day.

I charge a little more than MaryBeth. Most of my patterns weigh between 3 and 4 ounces shipped because I use rigid mailers for the lighter patterns. I charge $3.50/$1 for Canada and $5/2 for everywhere else (the first number being the base charge and the second being the additional pattern). Lately this has been extremely close to actual shipping.

I learned my lesson the hard way on international shipping. The shipping for a pattern to England cost $5.34 and Australia was $6.12. I now charge $6.50 for anything other than US, Canada and Mexico. I do use padded mailers, so that may effect the rate.

On the custom form, I just write "dress pattern--paper"

I don't know if there are any countries we can't ship to.
