Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

I have a Vogue Couturier Design pattern #903 from 1956 and am unsure how to price it.
I checked eBay, googled it, checked the Wiki website and know it is in a 900 series of Couturier Design patterns but cannot find this particular one anywhere.

The envelope is very tattered along the edges and quite torn along the edge folds.
The pattern is cut, complete and in excellent condition.

Any input would be appreciated as I am very new at this, just getting ready to add a Vintage pattern section to my shop (because I have too many vintage patterns I will never use!)

Have you seen anything similar, maybe the same designer or type of dress? Pricing is based on condition, designer, and outfit (dress vs. pants, evening gown vs. housedress).
Keep us posted....you got me curious.

I will list it so I can paste it here so you can see it. I guess I am wondering if because I cannot find another copy, does that increase the value?

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

This is the pattern in question. Right now I just attached a rather random price.

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Not sure if I should start a different thread, but I have the same question. I found this lovely pattern, Vogue 9019, and could barely find any similar listings on the web. It is in the vintage patterns wikia database, but I'm the only vendor. The pattern is in used, great condition, although the envelope is in poor condition. Do you think this is a fair price to list it for? It's not from the couturier line, but it seems rare. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Just curious, how often are customers purchasing patterns in the $100 dollar price bracket? I have seen patterns listed at $60 and above and they sit and sit and sit for months.

If there is a high demand for that pattern, say patterns from Jaqcues Fath, I have seen a mad scramble to buy those up at auction. Rare patterns, gowns, or fashion designer featured patterns; I get why they are more expensive.

But as a buyer I kind of balk at higher priced patterns that do not fit those attributes.

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Hey folks,

I picked up this beautiful 60s evening dress, Vogue 6018. It's cut, complete and in good used condition. I'd like some advice on pricing it. It's not in my shop yet, but you can view the vintage pattern wikia here: http://vintagepatterns.wikia.com/wiki/Vogue_6018

It seems like this pattern is rare, because a quick google search doesn't bring up much. There is a seller on etsy selling two copies and they're both priced in the $200(Can) range! I was quite excited to see this, but frankly do you think the pattern is worth that much? It has some beautiful elements to it, but it's not a designer pattern, so I'm having a hard time justifying putting such a high price tag on it. Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Laura

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Hey Laura! I do at least 3 searches-Etsy, Ebay & Worthpoint. I also will check Pinterest sometimes as well.

1)Etsy-well the obvious, is there anyone else selling it and at what price.

2)Ebay-I check both current and sold listings to gauge what's out there and what the interest has been.

3)Worthpoint-I check this usually too. Especially with vintage patterns. It is subscription based but you can get a free trial. I've actually found it invaluable. It saved me quite a chunk of moola on an item (not a pattern) and had information on others that I couldn't find elsewhere. I think I have some kind of discount code if you decide to subscribe. Just let me know and I'll hunt it down.

4)Pinterest-I check for several reasons-to see if there is or has been any interest. Also, if it's from an old Etsy listing it may have a price on it (not that it is completely accurate), information that may not be available now that it has sold.

I can tell you for this specific pattern, I checked and although someone has it listed on here at $100+ , in the past 6 months to a year several have sold in other venues for significantly less. At about $20-$40. Not to discourage you b/c everything is worth what someone is willing to pay. I just thought I'd share my process and information gathering. Hope it helps!

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Hi Gretchen - thanks so much for your reply! I'd never heard of worthpoint before, or thought to check pinterest for links to sold patterns.

I knew asking $100+ was too extreme - after all, the whole point is to sell so I want a reasonable price. I've got that number now. Thanks again!

Re: Input needed re pricing vintage Vogue pattern

Supply and demand. If you've got the only one, you get to set the price. I would consider also offering pdfs or copies/duplicates for a lower price as well as the original.
