How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

For those of us unused to the super long listing time you get for one money here on Etsy, what's a good span of time to wait before one renews? Is it even worth renewing if you add new listings regularly? Also, is there a better time of day, or even a better day of the week, to list so that your items are seen? ?? Happy Sewing, Rosie :)

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

Hi Rosie,

I never renew a listing. I spend the 20 cents for a new listing, hoping to that the new listing will get buyers in to browse and come across those older listings. So for me, renewing just isn't something a choose to do. Others will probably come along and tell you how they do things as well.

We only renew as we update photos, descriptions, etc. Maybe once per day when we're on a roll.

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

I only renew when something is about to expire. I prefer to add a new item when possible because my Etsy bill is already higher than I'd like :)

I think as long as I have a listing in the first few pages of search my shop can be found. People must search deep in shops too if they are really looking because I often sell patterns from my back pages.

I also try to space out my listing throughout the day and evening rather than a bunch at once so that I reach all different people. It's not always possible but I try :)

Also, I know listing new is generally easier for a supply/pattern shop than a handmade item shop. I have a handmade shop that is nearly empty right now because I just don't have the time to make new items. I have tons of patterns so always have something new to list ;)

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

When a pattern expires I renew it if I really like it and think it just hasn't found the right buyer yet. If I am not that excited about it I don't renew it and lately I've been putting those in a box for Pattern Rescue instead of sending them off to an uncertain fate at the thrift store.

But in my vintage crafty and trinket shop, Rosie, you inspired me with your $1 sale so I started relisting some of my patterns for $1. It's certainly not cost effective, except that it brings people into the shop and then they may find other things to buy. Plus there are just some patterns I am determined to find a home for! Today I had someone buy just about all the dollar patterns in my shop along with a ton of other stuff and I was very pleased with the whole transaction.

Otherwise, I usually won't relist a pattern more than once or maybe twice no matter how much I like it. But I think in the case of sellers whose items are rare and the price is much higher, it's worth it to continually relist until the right buyer comes along. I also have things sell from my back pages and I dont' get a lot of expired listings. I let them run their full course before relisting.

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

PrettyPatternShop, I'm realllly hoping SOMEONE BUYS MY DOLLAR PATTERNS! yoo hoo! Are you out there?? :):) Cost effective it may not be, but just yesterday I yanked a shoulder trying to drag a tub of patterns down stacked four high in my warehouse ... er dining room ... and swore I'd give em all away to the right person if I wasn't so darn mercenary out of necessity. PS. Yes, I think I'll just keep listing new throughout the day (good idea finickyfinds) and forget the renewals of the older stuff until it comes the time to renew. PSPS. Etsy fees are far more reasonable in my mind than eB*y. I seem to always owe them a king's ransom. Thanks so very much much for your help so far! Happy Sewing, Rosie :)

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

Remember that on the ETSY Time Machine 'about to expire' items are featured as well as just listed so don't renew too quickly or you will lose that opportunity for that at the last minute sale. I have another shop and often find that just before something expires I acquire many more hearts and sales so I save a listing fee too!!

For this shop I generally only renew expired items or add new ones but every once in a while I'll renew an item just for the fun of it. :)

Re: How Often Do You Renew Your Pattern Listings ?

I tend to renew after its expired. They usually sell after the second renewal. I think there was about 3 that I actually renewed about 3 times that never sold, so its sitting in expired still.
