Re: Dating Vintage Mail Order Patterns

I have an old wax envelope unprinted pattern of a ladies dress. The envelope is very yellow and brittle. It does not have a date or manufacturer. I am assuming it is a mail order pattern of some sort. The only number on it is 8064. I did try the link above but it does not work any more.

Does anyone have any idea what era this pattern might be from?

Re: Dating Vintage Mail Order Patterns

Curious to know if anyone has run into a situation where the mail order envelope date is 1949 and up and the pattern is 1930s. I know the style, I have very similar styles but using the wesewretro.com website the envelope date is 1949 and after. The company is The Weekly Star Farmer, featuring the Georgette Pattern, It has a Sec.34.66PL&R, 1 1/2 Cents. Meter No. 5267.

I was wondering if there was a time when consumers could purchase out of print patterns? This would explain the difference in pattern and envelope stamp.

Re: Dating Vintage Mail Order Patterns

Those mail order patterns stayed in print a looooong time. I wouldn't be surprised if it was originally published in the 1930s and still in print in the 40s. Or the envelope could be mismatch for the pattern--did you double check the numbers.

Re: Dating Vintage Mail Order Patterns

You may be right, the envelope is totally intacted and normally there is a handwritten number around the buyers address but not in this case. I will double check. Thanks
