Regarding Etsy's new search plans there was a very interesting Forum post the other day. I saved it because I believe one of the respondents to this post Deborah Mcgregor (?) has some interesting points about the future of Etsy search, I for one intend to start working on this ASAP

Truly stresses the need for sellers to be good at all parts of their listing SEO - tags, description, and pictures. We certainly are turning into a visual world.

On every Sale i send the Buyer a Free item that has some relationship
to the Item they just bought.
For example, a Customer recently purchased a copy of
Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (from the early 1980s), which features an important Event in the life of Spider-Man.
As a Free, "Thank You" gift, i sent this customer a copy of Spider-man #1 from the early 1990s, which was then the first new Spider-man title published by Marvel in many years and was also produced by a popular artist of the day.
A free, "Thank you" Gift shows gratitude to the Customer and earns goodwill.
