International sales question

Hello !

Would any experienced sellers in vintage books be willing to share on how they ship their books internationally? what is the most efficient and cost effective way to do it. Also, how do you determine a fair price for international shipping fees. Thank you.

Re: International sales question

I've shipped to Canada and the only way is First Class International. Still pretty costly. Hopefully some other sellers will have an answer for you.

Re: International sales question

Hi Madison... Welcome to the team. Diane is right
First Class International is the best way. I have
bought and sold internationally...
I put in my listing info that I will ship International
if they convo for a price .... then I use the USPS
website calculator and let them know how much and
different options...you can than add that country and
cost to your listing if they want to purchase.
It is costly and takes longer but I think most International
buyers expect that...

Re: International sales question

Thanks ladies ! Do you think it is better to just ask the interested buyer to contact you or offer international shipping with a set price for your particular item. I just want to be fair to the buyer without ending up loosing money on shipping. Most sellers that offer international shipping have between 10 and 13$ for one book Wow!

Re: International sales question

When I was just starting out I did not sell any international. After an Etsy friend from Canada contacted me about a book, I started selling there. If I were you I would not worry about selling international until you have more inventory and you have sold a few items in the states. Selling to Canada is very simple if you have direct checkout, you can print your label and customs form together right from your Etsy order. Also some international countries want you to list all of your personal information, like full name, address etc in your shop, so if you have any privacy concerns you need to keep that in mind. Also, read the forums about international shipping, there are some countries people just refuse to ship to because of the hassle. I have shipped once to Australia because the customer agreed to all my terms and the price etc. Personally I have shipped items to the UK and it seemed fairly easy, but I just haven't had that many people contact me requesting that I ship internationally.

Re: International sales question

I wouldn't worry about international.
99% of my sales are from the US.
Canada is an easy one to calculate if you want
to test the waters......Check the USPS site ... an envelope 12oz
or less is inexpensive ..Canada: was only $1.00 more
where a place like N Zealand $10 more....some countries
are hard to track if the package is lost.
Maybe not worth the hassle for you at this point.

Re: International sales question

i've sold quite a few books to many places in the world and have never had an issue. I highly recommend shipping internationally. The Etsy calculator is great for that. You can enter your information and get domestic and any country you want to list. For all my listings I include a handling fee in addition to shipping.

Re: International sales question

I understand both sides ;-) they both have + and - 's my thinking is there is no better time learning than right now. I probably should focus more on listing and worry about international sales as they present themselves ;-)
