What a great idea! These locations are so lovely, one might forget about looking at the books!

How 'bout posting photos/location of lovely libraries visited in the U.S.?

At a later time I will post photos of the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum in St Johnsbury Vermont - a Victorian delight in red sandstone in a small New England town...

A thread for interesting and unique corner or small book stores that sell rare books, vintage and antique books might also make a great discussion.

Then we may learn from each other where we might want to stop and take a look during our travels to nearby areas (Worldwide).

Would anyone like to share a privately owned book store, specializing in used books with a display of out of print books located in your area?

Or a memorable one you visited during travel?

A website link is also greatly appreciated.

In Tallahassee, I recommend The Paperback Rack
http://www.facebook.com/ThePaperbackRack

And

From my hometown, I recommend Read It Again
http://www.readitagain1.com/?page=shop/index

This one allows you to shop online as well, so take a look.

Please continue to share.

Libraries also.

In fact, many libraries have "Friends of the Library" used book stores and annual book sales and events.

If you are ever in Tallahassee, you may visit the main public library's used book store called The Friendshop located on the first floor.

Lovely libraries!

My favorite used bookstore is by the university here (UNM, near Central). There isn't much in the way of displays, just books and boxes of books stacked everywhere. The selection is hit-or-miss (ie have fun digging!). The owner doesn't have a computer, so no website. Cash and checks only, but she'll hold books for you while you run to the ATM at the university (yes, I've done this once or twice).

Page 1 is larger and has both new and used books, as well as an antiquarian room: http://www.page1book.com/ They also have a decent selection of vintage ephemera.

St Johnsbury is located in the North East section of Vermont, right on the White River & about an hour south of the Canadian border. I was born in that area & still find it to be one of the loveliest places to visit.

For a small town St J has a gorgeous library & up the street, a wonder of a little museum. Both are red stone Victorian buildings with interiors of dark carved wood & ornate iron railings....
The Athenaeum's site http://www.stjathenaeum.org/
The Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium site - http://www.fairbanksmuseum.org/

The Athenaeum does have a Friends of the Library bookshop just up the street.
The downstreet section of St J has good shopping....

Many of the small towns in Vermont can boast of a book shop - there are many fine used bookshops - here are two (& i will dig up the sites for other shops i have visited):
Green Mountain Books and Prints, Lydonville Vermont - new, used, rare books & a great kids room...
Rivendell Books, Main St, Montpelier Vermont - excellent store & another with a great selection of children's books - http://rivendellbooksvt.com/

Both Montpelier & Lydonville are charming towns - Montpelier being the capital, is a larger town with more amenities, restaurants & shops...

I still have family in Vermont & always make time to check out the used book shops!

Very cool shops Deborah! I would love to visit this area. It looks like a beautiful town. I could never get tired of historic little towns on the water with cool eclectic shops and corner book stores. Thanks for sharing!

We have a very good library for anyone interested in Arizona history. I used this library to do some personal research about Tucson history in the 1930's. It is connected to the Arizona Historical Society Museum-also an excellent place to go.
