Welcome!

Welcome to VegHeads! A little about me: I've been a Vegan for a little over 2 years. My husband and I turned at the same time after discovering I had extremely high cholesterol levels (I'm only 25!). That same week my grandpa also suffered a heart attack and had to have a quadruple bypass. We made the decision right then and there to change our lives by eating better. I'm also an avid animal lover with 2 dachshunds and then 3 more dogs back home in the Midwest. :) As for Etsy, I love creating jewelry and wall art out of recycled goods. Please tell me a little about yourself!

Re: Welcome!

Hi! Thank you for creating this group. What a great idea! This is my first team I joined. My family has all died at a very young age. My birth mother is currently suffering from MS and in her 50's so I decided I wanted to discontinue eating meat and change the outcome of my genetics. I have done an immense amount of research on food these past two years, and have learned a world of knowledge about health. What a pleasure it has been converting. Becoming a non meat eater really changed my life. I feel different, and find myself more thankful and appreciative of animal lives. I love creating art and find joy in outdoor activities. I'm glad to hear we started around the same time and we're around the same age. I'm 23.

Re: Welcome!

Hello Lynsey Johnson! First off, thank you for joining and sharing your story! I completely understand and sympathize with you regarding your family being a large part of your conversion. Congrats on your 2 years and your continuing journey! It's wonderful to know someone on the exact opposite side of the country who shares the same dietary values. You'll have to tell me where the good places are to eat in CA! I also love your art work! What beautiful and complex pieces! You truly have an eye for detail!

Re: Welcome!

Mattanda, thank you for the sweet note. It's a pleasure meeting a vegan artist from a historical part of america. I bet it's beautiful there. I have never visited but always day dreamed about Massachusetts magical qualities in history class. How do you like it?I hope your grandfather is doing well, and you have seen results in your cholesterol. It really takes a lot to change a diet.

About once every other month I turn to a raw diet for a few weeks. It is very hard for me during those times, but from watching a lot of youtube raw survivor health stories, I decided to try it. I found a raw eatery in Santa Monica with amazing dishes. I was really impressed. It inspired me to dry foods. I made these high protein cookies with all pure ingredients with little honey, dried them and they really turned out to be very good. One part of the raw diet I do keep regularly is juicing fruits and vegetables. There are some amazing concoctions that help your body in different ways. I really love to juice, do you juice?

By the way I love your delicate jewelry, it is very sweet. Did you design all of them? Very nice collection.

Re: Welcome!

HI, glad I found this group :) I am a Mom, artist & animal lover...we have 3 dogs, 1 cat (& 2 frogs). I live in Southern California. I've been a Vegetarian 20 years now. When I was 18 I watched a show on how the animals are treated/what happens to them & I quit eating meat right then. The last two years I have been trying to stick to a Vegan diet...which has been a little harder for me to stick to(sometimes I sneak some of my kids chocolate, if they have any around). One of my great passions is art. I love to create & that is how I found myself here on Etsy.

Re: Welcome!

Wow Aimie C.! 20 years is quite impressive! And 2 years of being Vegan is also a big accomplishment! I can understand it being a challenge with kids in the house, so I'm very impressed you've been able to keep going. If I had some of my old favorite foods around all the time it would be quite a struggle for me not to indulge :) Your art is beautiful and I love the dolls! Welcome to the group and good luck with your Vegan journey!

Re: Welcome!

Lynsey: I totally encourage you to visit Boston at some point! It's a very tourist friendly city. There is history overflowing out of every part of the city...for example my train lets me out underneath the old south church where Ben Franklin and Paul Revere attended services, and Franklin was born right across the street! There are also some awesome Vegan restaurants that you should try!

Thank you for asking about my grandpa. He's doing wonderfully! And my cholesterol, after 2 years Vegan, went down from 230 to 190. That's a huge drop and I was so happy that the diet produced such amazing results. I'll never go back! I haven't gotten in to the whole juicing thing as of yet....I've struggled to find a concoction that I enjoy. I'm also allergic to bananas, which restricts some of the more fruity drinks.

I did design and make all of the jewelry on my site. I'm glad you like it! I tend to upcycle from jewelry that I find at thrift stores and whatnot. I like to take old pieces apart and make something new with them!

Re: Welcome!

Aimie:
20 years! Right on. You're an inspiration to the group. I really love the Miyoko. Original Clay Art Doll. It is very unique. I love the hair. It reminds me of mickey mouse hair in another world, and such a cute little expression on the lips. Do you have these little people in Galleries?

Mattanda:
Wow that's fantastic! Boston sounds incredible. Now I have to make it a point to visit that church by train, that sounds really cool.

Really great for your grandpa and you. One juice concoction I love that is sweet and tangy is: Orange, Pineapple, Beet.. Wow it was a surprise to find this. It tastes better than candy. I was having a little problem with digestion after knee surgery, the beet juice cleared it right up. and the other two fruit were excellent for healing.

I love that you use found jewelry, that is very cool.

Re: Welcome!

Mattanda...thanks so much for the welcome to the group, & the compliments on my art :)

Lynsey...thank you also for the kind words. I don't have my stuff in galleries. That would be cool, in the future. Right now I just sell on Etsy, do my blog, & occasionally sell my work at an Indie Art Fair here in Orange County.

Re: Welcome!

Thats awesome! I have yet to sell something on Etsy, I am very excited for my first sell. I was hoping that either of you might be able to give me useful tips on how to sell.

As you can see on my shop I have 3 items with pictures that aren't straight forward, do you think the tree with one photo would be the better way to go?

thanks for liking my items guys!

Re: Welcome!

Hi Lynsey, I usually put several pictures of the item up. I think a few photos is good, so people can see it from different angles, etc. For me, it seems people respond more/look more at my art, if I have a closer up picture of the item, as the first picture they see.

Sorry to not be too much of a help...

Re: Welcome!

Lynsey: I agree with Aimie C. about the photo's. You need a good range of your product so people can see all the angles. Natural lighting is always best. In regards to selling, that's the tricky part. I just re-opened my shop after a year of being off etsy and i've yet to sell anything. Sometimes it takes awhile but to help you along you have to network. It can be time consuming, but it gets your art out there. Make treasuries, join groups (like this one!), and find other artists you like. Get yourself out there as much as possible and eventually the sales will start!

Re: Welcome!

Wow thanks guys! Your help is very much appreciated. These tips are great!

I definitely will try these.

I have a lot of work to get to, I will try these avenues.

Do you have a system to keep organized with all of the groups and places you've joined? I started a google excel document, but I'm hoping there might be a more efficient way.

thanks for the help :)

Re: Welcome!

Hi everyone,

I have been a vegetarian for 16 years now. After I had my 4th child I decided to do something for myself and became one. My youngest is now a vegetarian for a couple of years now also.
I've always loved animals and right now have 1 dog and 2 cats, all rescued.
I live in Jersey and started my etsy shop a little over a year ago. Looking forward to talking with all of you.

Re: Welcome!

Hi all -
I'm pretty new to Etsy too (just had my first sale this week)!

My husband and I have both been vegan for 9 years and our two children (4 1/2 year old son and a 5 month old daughter) have been vegan since birth. We LOVE living vegan and can't fathom ever going back!

Thanks for being so welcoming!
xo,
Jessi
