MARCH Creativity Challenge

Upcyclers Monthly CREATIVITY Challenge:

Each month a selected shop (Judge) will choose a common upcycled medium, like a tin can, an old magazine, etc), and participants respond with photographed ideas of what they upcycled that medium into!

How to Enter:

On this discussion thread please leave a link of your upcycled entry.
Entries must come with a photo of your idea. A description or your thoughts are welcome, but your idea and shop will be share by the PHOTO LINK that you submit as an entry.

To post the photo a link onto Etsy’s discussion boards, you can do this a number of ways:
Upload the photo to a social media network... twitter, facebook, flickr, an Etsy listing, etc. Then paste the link into your entry comment.

You can also upload your photo entry on your own blog or website, and then paste the link into your entry comment on the thread.

Entries will be included in the creativity challenge’s monthly blog post (published on love2upcycle.blogspot.com/) and on our team’s social networks. This is a great way to share the upcycled love and promote your shop.

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Awesome. I think my hubby has a stained tie that he doesn't want. :)

I took part in a challenge by teammate UpcycledStuff last year and I turned a tie into these fabric balls. :)

Here was how... http://www.thewoodenbee.com/giveaways-and-contests/

Off to get more ideas. :)
Thanks

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Awesome. I love this idea! When I was in high school, I had gotten a trunk of old ties and had made this awesome skirt out of them. Afterwards, when my grandparents were cleaning out their house they had found a quilt my great grandmother had made out of ties. I lost both of these in a move many years ago and have been so disheartened by it. I will be glad to be able to create something new. I can't wait to hit up some thrift shops for some good ones!

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Cool! I still have a bag of old neckties from a phase my daughters were in a few years ago. We made a skirt and two bags together. Here's what we made back then (for inspiration):

Laura, just looked at your post! Love the skirt and the bag! So cool. I've always wanted to make a skirt like that! Desiree, what a bummer that yours got lost!!

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Love all of these ideas so far! I think at the very least I'm going to make a headband for myself or my girls, but I'm hoping to make something for my shop(s) too!

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

I turned a lace shirt into a shrug and used a necktie to adorn the edge:

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Great ideas so far....just love the skirts!
I'll have to hit the thrift stores, I think the only tie my hubby owns is the one he got married in...lol
Hope ties are easier to sew than knits. :)

Happy Upcling All!!

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

One of the parts I love about these challenges is seeing so many people who ALREADY have items in their job made with the challenge material! So cool! :)

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

You all are so talented!

I have the ties....I just have to find a "no-sew" project I think...lol. I sometimes feel like I am the only one on Etsy that can't use a sewing machine! (I would dearly love to learn though)

I bought one of those little hand held stitchers last week thinking that maybe I could at least do some small seams or something with it.....have yet to take it out of the box to see if it works!! : )

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

Beatiful work everyone!

So far we have:

Fabric Balls
Skirts
Bags
Headbands
Shrug
Drink Holder/Mug Hugger
and a Purse

I enjoy seeing all the different perspectives on this challenge! Everytime I work on a project that is outside of my comfort zone, the end result feels like such a breakthrough and a rush of inspiration! Hope you get inspired to try a new technique and learn a new skill ~ you never know what your new favourite is going to be unless you experiment!

Re: MARCH Creativity Challenge

M Basile, don't let the lack of sewing machine know-how stop you. All my stuff is handsewn—I don't know how to use a machine, either. If I weren't such a procrastinator I'd have learned by now. But there's something so therapeutic about listening to an audiobook while I use needle and thread. If I use the machine I might not be able to hear my books.
