Need Advice

I hand make Polymer Clay Roses & other Flowers by hand Petal by Petal which I then incorporate into my Jewellery/Hair Accessories etc

I've recently been asked if I could make these beads and sell them onto other designers. My aim in business is to create my own work and sell as the full peice if that makes sense.

My question is, would you think selling beads to other designers could be a good idea as a side line to my business? I'm just concerned that if I take on to many of these types of requests that I won't get time to create my own designs :-/

Also, If I agreed, I'm concerned I won't profit unless I ask for a minimum order??? Is this being silly or would you agree? Postage costs are high as well as the time it takes for me to make as well as the fact I use the Oven to cure my work (electricity bill)

Any advice would be greatly appreciate as I am stuck on what to do

Re: Need Advice

It is entirely up to you wether you want to sell components on as supplies or not, but it can bring more business to your Etsy shop. If you do then set the prices high enough to make it really worth your while.

I agree with Fiona - if it brings people to your shop, and are priced high to reflect the quality, then it might be a good idea! But dont do it if it will take up too much time and there's no payoff. Perhaps you could make statement beads and those could be priced well - little beads I imagine could be time consuming! If they're not though you could experiment and see how fast they sell etc :) Good luck!

Re: Need Advice

Most of my sales are from selling my handmade beads/pendants to other jewellery designers...I do make my own jewellery but find my handmade supplies sell a lot better. I guess it's down to how you want your business to go...if you'd rather keep your designs exclusive to your jewellery then that's your decision...however if you're getting requests, then there's definitely a demand for your work and it could bring in some revenue for you.

Re: Need Advice

Natasha I had a look at your shop and your flowers are BEAUTIFUL! It might actually be a good idea to sell your flowers as supplies to other jewelers, because they would look so good as a statement bead on a necklace - your jewelery is great, but others might want to use your flowers too. Maybe give it a try to see, and it might work out well like it does for Natalie :)
