Your thoughts and ideas about voting?

What do you think about voting? I have noticed that some good treasuries are rated lower than they are and some bad treasuries are rated higher.
So what can we do?

I offer to make voting from anonymous to public (open).

Is there any other ideas to make voting more precise?

Yes I noticed the same too... maybe that a not anonymous vote prevent persons to assign 1 star when the treasury doesn't deserve it... but since many persons havn't time to vote or havn't time to vote often I also suggest that could be an idea to assign to every new treasury a 3 star score and then people who see a mediocre or bad treasury may vote just in this case with a 2 or 1 star... something like a subtraction system (not anonymous)... in this case treasuries where there are few votes because people have no time to vote won't be penalized... I don't know that this system may work and if it is diffuclt to realize... just something to think about!

I have been thinking about this, if there is a non anonymous vote to take away stars from a not so good treasury this might lead to animosities between people wich would be such a pitty!
I also understand there are people not having time to vote. Why can't we do a mix : Put 3 stars onto a treasury and then vote anonymous in case we don't agree with the stars?
I keep thinking...

Yes, I noticed that too, but don't make voting public.
Then you will have higher results then objective ones.

What to do? Hm...make more people vote maybe. Since well, there may be one or two who will give lower or higher, but when you have more people it will be more objective.

What about adding one more point. Then 4 would be FP worthy, a really flawless T; 3 will be a very beautiful one, made with attention, but which still needs a little or with some small flaw; 2 a mediocre one and 1 - for all those which it is obvious are piling items just to make a list.

I have also noticed this as well. I take time and sit down and thoughtfully put one together and get a 1 but the peopled featured from the team say its "Amazing" or "Beautiful" in the treasury thread. I wonder if people don't really understand the system completely. I personally would be good with not anonymous voting I am happy to own my vote!

I have an idea... may be keep it anonymous but add a comment line in the voting system so if someone left a 1 they can add why. I would like to know why someone thinks my treasury is ugly that I think works.

Well, about anonymous or not. Well, finally if you decide let's try with unanonymous vote for an instance? Me personally I don't have a problem with it.
But when I passed voting before a while I realised once again I need a 4-rate system.
Someone to miss one step just as me?

@Melissa, you always write "beautiful", "nice"or " awesome", if it is, in the comments part, no matter what the treasury is. It's like unannounced Etsy etiquette. And it is really encouraging, it is always nice to see that one encouraging word there. Maybe many of us have felt the personal support of it. I did many times.
But with this game we had agreed and we went for a real competition. And actually the site is outside Etsy, right? Maybe one of the reasons why it is outside Etsy. And this game is really making me fix some things in my curation. Otherwise we still sit and ask ourselves, "why my T's never get to the Front page"? Right?
That's why I think it still has to keep its anonymous character. (I still wonder about it. Hope you will have some good ideas.)

Oh no don't get me wrong I love it too! I feel a bit lost. I say "Ok" how can I make it better then no change in my rating. I would love to be on the front page and am interested in be better but its hard for me to fix what I am doing if I have no idea what is going wrong. Does that make sense? Perhaps we need a thread for this at the very least? Critique my treasury?

I believe that if you remove the ranking of shop owners by quality, you may see more honest voting of treasuries, because I think that shop owners may vote "down" on beautiful treasuries in order to move themselves "up" in the ranking; solely because of the nature of competition.

If you make the voting solely about the treasuries, and not about the curators, this may solve the problem of the disconnect in voting.

I would not vote if the voting were not anonymous, simply because I would not be able to vote negatively on a treasury, even if I didn't think that it was a good treasury, because I would be concerned about hurting someone's feelings.

@Melissa I totally get it!! I made a beautiful and bright and colorful treasury after I got some 1-2max point, and I ended up with four (!!!) 1 , in a row. I really don't understand why, and I want to know and learn from the critiques, not just a " nah..." feeling. Also that Critique my treasury would be great, but I'm afraid only nice comments will appear.

Also, maybe people are voting up only treasuries they are featured in.

I've read some interesting stuff on voting systems : "the ideal number is actually 4 stars.

The idea is that people naturally gravitate towards the 3 in a 5-star system (or the 2 in a 3-star system) because it's easy. Go ahead and look at your iTunes library; if you're anything like me you have squillions of 3s.

By only providing positive or negative options and removing "neutral", you apparently get more meaningful feedback from the users."


Well if people keep voting me down, there is no point for me to participate and feel bad about it. Also I don't see a delete my account or something on the T.promo site.

I haven't been voting. Why hurt someone's feelings over a treasury, even anonymously? It's all so subjective, even at the Etsy admins' level. I've had a few of mine make the FP, and only one of them was what I'd consider one of my better efforts.

This is how I see it. 1. We choose to participate in this. It is not something we have to do. 2. It really shouldn't hurt somes feelings not if they look at it in an objective way.

I agree it is subjective however it is better to have many subjective views than just your own. Someone may point something out that you didn't see or consider etc. Really but not voting is just as bad as being dishonest. I will admit I have put a 1 on some treasuries but most I give a 2 because most are beautiful in some way to me. Some are stunning and they of course get a 3. Also just because they chose me doesn't mean they get an automatic 3 etc.

I think leave the voting on the treasury but make it at the least 4, maybe even 5 options. 1 is very bad, 5 is perfection. I agree with others, 3 is too narrow a range. If 4 is ideal, then that is the way to go.

I don't think that voting should not be public. I've seen this on other teams and it leads to manipulation - whoever has the most "friends" will vote the treasury up. And what point does it serve? I'm pretty sure I could get 10 people to give my T a 3, doesn't mean it's a good treasury or that it's going to make front page.

I agree with Sue that we should take the quality score off the members page. It should be about the treasury made at that time, not overall. It is actually discouraging to me to see that score. I would like to learn something from other curators in this team, but while we have a "quality" score attached to our shop, I am less inclined to want to make treasuries here.

I think anonymous voting is better for an honest score.

At this point I have only been voting on the treasuries I'm in and I don't think I would have time to vote on all treasuries. I don't know how to solve the problem of people not voting. If we are only looking at one treasury at a time it will not matter in the long run. We can see the treasury list and look at our treasuries that do well, and others that do well and learn from them.

In terms of critiques, I feel sad that people (including me) are discouraged about getting low scores. I would never put a bad comment on a treasury because I appreciate being in them. It's a major way for me to make sales! Having said that I always try to spend time and make an interesting list and I definitely look at other treasuries to see how I can improve mine. Colors, quirky items, arrangement, relevant themes etc. I think it's too hard to critique a treasury as a one-off and I probably wouldn't ask for one on this team.

Have any decisions been made about the quality score on the members page? After having looked at it for a few more days, I believe it is being manipulated and it is unfair.

I know it is anonymous for us but maybe Janis can see who is putting the bad scores on the lists and can warn them privately? I've seen three undeserved 1s on treasuries (not mine btw) today. Really mean behaviour imo.

@Andrea I am inclinded to agree with you as I have also noticed breathtaking treasuries get a 1 and think hmm.

Another thought also occured to me, perhaps people are being really critical. Since number 1 has "could be better" that is really ambiguous and really would apply to most even the 2's and 3's because no ones is actually perfect. Changing to a 4-5 star system will get more variation and 1 can be for just bad or call it something else etc.

I like the 5 star idea. I also would love to see the names of the treasuries verses the link. I find it easier to find, myself.

I like the 4 star idea like Savenna suggested it, but 5 is also better than 3 :)

I just joined and made my first team treasury. Really many great shops here with so much choice for selection of beautiful items to make a beautiful treasury. I thought my treasury was nice, but I received two votes of two stars only. Guess I still have to learn a lot about making treasuries, so I think Melissa's suggestion to add the option for comments could be very useful. It would allow everyone to receive comments on how they can improve their treasuries, and bring the team treasuries to even a higher level.

May I suggest that while we vote for each other we also favorite or comment on these treasuries? It will certainly help to expose them, and it's little additional effort!
