Hey all,
I am fleshing out an idea that I'd like to start working on ASAP. Let's throw down a BUY LOCAL CHALLENGE for Toledoans this holiday season. We need to pump as much money into our economy as possible and raise awareness of all the cool stuff that's being produced here. Let's challenge our neighbors, and ourselves, to buy 100% of our gifts locally.
It doesn't need to be etsy-centric; the challenge should extend out to any artist, craftsperson, and local business. But this is a good place to start. I think it would be great if each neighborhood had a "captain" of sorts that will disseminate info to facebook friends, neighborhood email lists etc.
Ideally the challenge would culminate in a holiday party where only those who can show receipts of... i don't know... $200 or more of locally purchased goods.
What do you think? Anyone willing to participate? Would you be willing to be a captain for your neighborhood?
Looking forward to hearing thoughts, ideas, and even criticisms.
