Bubble

Hi,
I'm new here and was looking through the teams and found this one. I have been a tea lover all my life, love going to afternoon tea (both formal and cozy). My shop is still in development but I have about a gazillion cups to put up.
As for the subject of this post? For at least 10 years I avoided a local store that sells "bubble tea" (aka boba). I always thought it was a fruity/slushy drink with those giant tapioca pearls. I was only partially right...I have since discovered "milk tea". Good old fashioned sweetened black tea (aka red) with half and half (I have since switched over to 2% milk) over ice with lovely, chewy, slight sweet tapioca pearls. I am trying to describe it as positively as possible for those who have never had it, because just saying sweetened iced tea, milk and tapioca doesn't come close to how delicious my new found treat really is. Anyone else a fan of "bubble tea"?

:-)

Re: Bubble

Laurie!, bubble tea sounds lovely and I am anxious to try it. Is it better cold? Do you make it like sweet tea and then add the other ingredients? I am in Milwaukee and it is sweltering (much like a Houston summer day) and I am looking for anything to chill with. Your bubble tea might be just the right drink!
Happy fourth!!!

Re: Bubble

I have never heard of bubble tea and am not sure I want to try it.

The 'milk tea' sounds interesting. I am in LOVE with very vanilla soy milk. Do you think the sweetened black tea would work with this type of milk. It is sweet so I find that I never add sugar when I use it, such as with chai tea.

Re: Bubble

I've tried to replicate the drink at home, but it is never quite as tasty as the shop down the street. Not sure why (although, I don't do the tapioca at home, too labor intensive) They also have a Thai Iced Tea version, which is also yummy but very sweet. I don't like it too sweet and have asked them to make mine with less sugar.
I don't see why you couldn't make it with the vanilla soy milk, I know they offer soy as an alternative (but it's regular, not vanilla). I've had a version with almond milk, too.
