What did you find!!??

I don't know if this whole team thing is going to be great or not,
but I think I would like a team with people who enjoy looking through old stuff to find neat stuff.
Isn't it fun to tell someone else about the cool thing you spotted in a thrift store or at a yard sale?
A lot of us appreciate that joy and get a thrill not just from our own finds but from other people's good fortune too!

So tell, us, what have you found that you were excited about either lately or not so lately!

Re: What did you find!!??

My latest awesome find was a set of Raggedy Ann kitchen appliances from the 1950s. Fridge, stove and sink, all made of metal. They're child size, each about 1 foot tall. The fridge is a little taller.

They're in fantastic condition!

Bought them from a charity resale shop. The kind that starts off with items close to antique store prices....but then discounts, discounts and discounts again the longer the items are there.

I paid the full price - $60 for all three. But so worth it! And not ready to part with them yet...which is why I'm willing to reveal what I paid. : )

Re: What did you find!!??

Oh those kitchen appliances would have called to me! Good find!!

I was pleased to find two Tepco diner mugs while out thrifting today.

I have to go over my goodies and start scrubbing them clean!

Re: What did you find!!??

oh my gosh...I had a Raggedy Ann & Andy kitchen set as a kid! That was in the 70's though.

My blog post yesterday was just showing a few of the thrift scores I have in my home

Re: What did you find!!??

Btw. This team is cool :D

I found a little ziploc baggie full (and taped shut) with vials full of gold flakes.
They looked interesting, and useful for crafting, and they were marked 1.00$! So i got 'em.
I didn't know what to do with them, so i put them on a listing!

I didn't know what to keyword them, or what to price them at, so i went to a chat and asked anyone who was in there what they would do, or whatever advice they had.. someone was in there who knew all about the gold flakes, and she freaked out about the fact that i had over 11 vials of these things!
She bought all of them for 30$ from me!
Super awesome find! :D

I also recently found this:

Re: What did you find!!??

I hunt for sweaters to make my garments, but of course, the sirens of the other departments call to me!!

While not vintage, I did find a bargain last week! A brand new (Wilson Leather tags still on) large very think leather tote. Seeing as I had been nursing my old one with a broken handle for about two years, I was thrilled...and at $4.99 couldn't pass it up!!

Re: What did you find!!??

That is cool, Rhett!
It looks like it would fit right in with a "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' theme.

Great shop name too, Rhett!

Re: What did you find!!??

I never buy my clothes at regular retail stores anymore. I now wear designer duds found in thrift stores that I could never in this world afford otherwise. I LOVE it. Such fun to wear $200 jeans over my ragged under.... LOL.

Re: What did you find!!??

I once found a pristine little dish from Czechoslovakia (try spelling that without a spell check). I knew it was old and it was gorgeous. I had also bought some cloth while there and carefully wrapped the dish in the cloth while checking out. You can guess what happened when I got home. I whipped out the cloth from the bag, forgetting about the dish and it flew across the room and shattered into a gazillion pieces. :(

I just did that two weeks ago, only it was a Tepco bullion bowl, much less precious, but still...I felt like a dope!

Re: What did you find!!??

I LOVE retro kitchen stuff! I used to collect whimsical cookie jars- they were all so cute and you can not find these any where else these days. I really like 1940's kitchen styles, and the colors are really cool. I used to have a huge kitchen (I had an 1865 plantation house that had been in my family) and I had so much fun decorating it. Oh, and I like Raggedy Ann also!

Re: What did you find!!??

Ever been to a thrift store that lets you stuff all the clothes you can fit into a plastic grocery bag....and the price is then $1 a bag?! And there's no limit to how many bags you can buy. Did that once. : )

Re: What did you find!!??

My latest score (Friday) was $3.50 for an electric Smith Corona typewriter. Works perfectly! I'm keeping it. My toddler is having a blast with the thing.

It feels so odd to type on a typewriter again! The keys have a totally different "rebound effect" than you get from the keys on a keyboard.

Menzo, that is a great find! I used to love typing up stuff on my Dad's old manual SC--which I still have! What if there is a power outage and I need to type something, right?

WW-also a great find. I get so excited when I find good wool at a great price!
