Hi everyone!
I have tons and tons of cool inventory but it's overwhelming and spilling out into the rest of the apt.
What do you list 1st? Small stuff? large?
Inexpensive or higher priced 1st?
I have to say I'm proud of myself for going through stuff and giving some away after looking at it and thinking" why did I bring THIS home?"
list the least expensive first. some people search by low to high. largest is going cost you the most to ship. look to see how common or rare each item is. if you find other listings of it then list something you have the only one of first. take advantage of the words rare and htf. they get attention, as does oop. list unbreakables because there is not the high risk of damage. i understand vintage clothing sells pretty well. good luck.
I wish I could help but I make everything as orders come in. I'm also a huge procrastinator when it comes to listing anything new.
Ha ha !! Me too.
gerri, maybe you can help her... tomorrow! it's always a day away. ; )
@vlmkpyae Lol! Right! :- D
I have the same type of problem. Sometimes I just grab what I brought home that day, photo and list. I just pulled out something I bought years ago, photoed again, listed and it sold within a month. I have no solution yet. I love bringing home cool stuff. Some needs a professional appraisal and so that causes it to sit longer! I have given away some things lately, including a large black velvet headless matador painting!
Since I have to sew everything I carry in my shop (except for a little vintage) there is not much of a chance of me ever having a huge backlog of stuff needing to be listed or stored. Because I depend on the sun for lighting, I can't take pics regularly so there will be 3 or 4 things that have to sit before I can list. I do have quite a bit of vintage but put those off as long as possible before listing. My shop is all about my sewing/quilting. Minimum 4 hours daily sewing and the rest on/off my laptop. I'm in an apartment also so I get finding room for all the stuff waiting to be sold. Everything is in totes so I can stack them...and I do...5 totes high!
lol. i'm picturing that.
oop = out of print. books and fabrics. means can't be made again unless somebody ponies up big money to get it custom remade. aka, rare and very hard to find. htf. le is limited edition.
Good morning, good afternoon. Everybody has a different method. FIRST, I separate by themes. For example, tableware, kitchenware, photos, postcards, paintings, books, handcraft kits, so on. SECOND, record the inventory in a bin, do columns with name of product, date it arrived at home, if it is from a previous store, it was in the family or somebody else gave it to us (as present) to sell, before they moved out of the state or moved to Heaven. THIRD store the items according to its requirement. For example in transparent plastic boxes, wood dresser for handcraft materials and kits,
dishes in wood boxes, of course, wrapped in papers. Every box or dresser with an alphabetical list of the products inside the box or dresser. In a Youtube video, I got the good idea to number every box, it's easier. do an old file reference to find out where is a product.
Some things may be at home, others to the warehouse.
Maybe, do the inventory according with our Etsy store sections.
Canvas stitching magazines
holidays
romance novels
sports memorabilia
table runners
vinyl disks
Thanks for the advice!
I have a mixed lot of linens- small dollies, table runners, pot holders etc i guess i could sell as 1 lot. all vintage.
Hi @Lionfishvintage I used to sell a lot more vintage, and still 'destash' vintage supplies I haven't used now and again... Could any of your smaller things go out as 'instant collections'? I've had some success with groups of random objects for other artists too- junk drawer, or assemblage supplies. If it's neat smalls, there's a good chance artists will find them, even if they are a random assortment, or maybe especially so. It's so time consuming to photograph and list a ton of smalls- if you can curate little collections, at a higher price for the group, that might lessen some of the overage, and save you some time listing.
Did you know that you can't use the word n I p? As in nipitinthebud? I couldn't post until I changed a sentence without that word.
@ElizabethRosenArt Yes thanks for that suggestion.
i have a bag full of mixed new and old jewelry parts / pieces that i have separated into earrings/ bracelets/ necklaces etc.
The whole bag prob weighs about 9 lbs.
Can i sell them as vintage/ newish as craft supplies?
should i keep them as described above or mix them?
Sell as the whole 9 lb lot or make it lots of 3 or 4 lbs?
thanks for your help.
destash is a great search term!
elizabeth, the censors here must be left over from old ebay! we had to talk about roostertail forks and kittywillow flower arrangements and such. it was crazy!
@Lionfishvintage1) Yes, you can sell them as craft supplies. 2) Good idea to offer earrings, bracelets, necklaces. Maybe, offer 10 for example, variation quantity/pattern in order to put the 10 in one list, offer the option to buy from 1 to 10. When there are about 3 left, add other jewelry to offer the whole group as a lot, and also the option to buy only one item.
Apologies if I confused the explanation. Just got out of hospital, medication secondary effect confusion, dizzy,
@Lionfishvintage Yes, I was. I am an old fashion bag and saw been in a hospital as something terrible, keep it secret. There is nothing wrong to get sick. When we age, the body needs repairs like the cars. My problem was digestive, a quick procedure solved the situation. Now, my son and daughter-in-law who live with us have to take care of me. I saw before, to be sick like a punishment. Now, the perspective changed after last week.
Care, rest, take the medication, follow the diet, keep the online stores in vacation, disconnect from any business activity for a week, do only what I can do, let the young generations to do the cleaning, cooking, laundry. It's not been useless, it's a happening in life. So far, sleeping a lot turned out to be a great medicine during this recovering time.
ana, i hope you will be ok. hugs. get well soon.
I hope you feel better soon Ana! @SwissZahlerArt
