For those of us etsy dinosaurs who still have a stand alone PayPal option...that option is going away next month. Etsy says we have to start using etsy payments...
Where is that info? I didn't get an email (that I know of). Not surprised at all, but I'd like to see their announcement.
Nevermind, I found the email. Interested to see what the other "dinos" are doing: switch now? Or hold out til the deadline and let Etsy do it?
Yeah, I got the email, and it sucks. I had a good system going.......collect my income from PayPal, buy postage through Pirate Ship, and pay the Etsy bill when it came due. I don't want to leave Etsy, so will see how it goes over the next few months.
that's exactly how i did it. i got a paypal debit card just for paying my prate ship bill. and my paypal account balance paid off my monthly services like netflix and hulu from my etsy revenue.
I'm a dinosaur and I don't see any reason to switch over ahead of time. Though of course it doesn't make any difference - they're going to do it, we have no choice, we can go with it or jump ship. We don't have to like it, do we.
I just got the email, too. I guess they are not risking shops letting themselves be closed down for refusing the transfer this time around and will "do it for us".
It sounds like they are threatening to suspend our selling priviledges if we don't switch by May 15th. Nice......
I'm going to hold onto it as long as I can even though fewer and fewer of my sales go through my standalone PayPal these days. They can change me over on 5-15 along with the rest of us stubborn old dinosaurs. I'll sure miss it though - I loved having "instant cash" once in a while.
Wait- I'm confused. Are they switching it over for us or penalizing us for NOT switiching over ourselves?
According to the email I got from them , we won't be penalized if we don't switch over because they will do it.

"You have until May 15, 2019 to make the switch—it takes just a few clicks! If you haven’t turned off standalone PayPal by then, we’ll automatically start processing your PayPal sales through Etsy Payments. Don’t worry, we’ll send you a reminder before that happens."
I'm a dinosaur, too. And I love having Paypal (and so do my customers).
What really gets my goat though, is what they wrote: "we’re here to help you and your customers find a resolution if anything goes wrong. That’s why we’re requiring you to send your PayPal sales to Etsy Payments instead of using your standalone PayPal account." WHO ARE THEY KIDDING? WHAT CUSTOMER SERVICE DOES ETSY HAVE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG? Etsy can't even spell Customer Service, let alone understand that concept. I wish they'd stop trying to blow smoke up my a*r*s*e*. It ain't about customer service, it's all about GREED.
My thoughts exactly when I read the email. Customer service has never been Etsy's strong point.
I just pulled the same line, quoting it in the main forum with the same sentiment. Their customer service is terrible.
my thing is, in the rare times when things went wrong - it had nothing to do with a payment of any kind. they do well enough when someone opens a case with coming up with a solution....customer service is customer service and payment ain't got nothing to do with that considering every customer has paid.
Yes, I got the email also and it is my understanding that if you do not switch it will be done for you about May 15th. I keep a little slush fund in PP to pay for supplies I order online. That said--I will probably wait until sometime around the first week in May to switch. I really don't want Etsy doing something for me "automatically".
I can't say I did not expect this--I did sooner or later-I just hate that it is "sooner"
Totally agree. I also don't want Etsy doing an "automatic" switch for me. Considering some of the other payment account issues here lately, I think I'd rather do it myself.
I won’t be letting them do it automatically either. But, I will be waiting until the last minute to do it, just to make sure they don’t change their minds.
For me, it involves a significant adjustment in how I handle my finances, so I’d rather not jump on the boat until I’m absolutely positive that I have to.
This REALLY sucks ;{
since it's all over the fora anyway...

apparently it is getting out there for others to read and comment on, it seems.
Can buyers still buy using their PayPal?
Yes. It just goes through Etsy's PayPal rather than sellers' PayPal.
i use paypal to but etsy store raw mateial ,supply and releated event i want to keep using that ,but i think i have paypal payment as astandardd how and what click to change , can any one have a look at my shop and tell what to do
I won't change until forced to.
I am concerned about them potentially removing the OTHER option as well. I use that extensively to allow customers to make deposit payments on custom orders via PayPal invoice. If I have to, I'll make separate private listings but those are no good for being found in search. Not sure what I will do, but I'm figuring I will need some type of plan. Most of my customers like to do the deposit because my processing times can be long and offering 2 payments helps them make up their minds to buy.
i just counted 7 different threads on the main forum page complaining about this, the worst being about some sort of loan program. if there is anything to feel bad over it would be that. apparently paypal will not consider money directly transfered to them as income towards a loan unless it is straight from a sale. this is going to get ugly quickly and it looks like a lot of sellers might lose their loans or something.
i have these horror images of pottersville...
