Apparently Etsy has charged obscene dollar amounts to the credit cards of many Etsy Shops under the reasoning of 'fees due'. Check your accounts asap. Would stay "on top" of the issue too. Am also copying from my post in Bugs:
"Just a FYI for those Shops where Etsy Charged their Credit Card for "fees due", at times into the thousands of dollars: from Credit Karma:
"Square, another online payment service, says it can take two to seven business days to process a refund. ***Then it can take another two to seven business days — depending on the card issuer’s refund-processing speed — for the refund to show up in your account.***"
So your Visa/MC account has been charged $3,000. & amount approved. Even if Etsy does credit your Visa/MC back this $ amount, it will take a while to show up. I hope your bill does not come due during that time. I hope you don't have to make an emergency major purchase as your available credit may be nearly used up.
Remember no other business has access to your Etsy Account - those sudden dollars in Etsy Acct. won't pay for new car tires or kitchen appliance if you suddenly need such practical but expensive items."
Thanks for the heads up. I have my account set to manual pay (not auto billing) for this very reason, I don't want anyone grabbing money unless I'm the one doing the grabbing. :)
Best wishes,
I have it set up manual pay too! I never sign up for automatic anywhere! Not a good idea and this is exactly why! Oh wow!
Good grief!
When will Etsy get their $h*t together with this payment system?
I'm guessing they never got the memo about if it ain't broke don't fix it...
Best wishes,
@BigDogLadysJools my guess is they switched to a system that was cheaper for them cost wise and it is the sellers that suffer the consequences (leaving sellers with feelings of regretsy).
Themed Vintage, yep, that sounds like Etsy all right.
Best wishes,
If you read the bugs post, some of the amounts are absolutely frightening - in the thousands of dollars. Yikes. These are some serious issues here.
I've been on there now for quite a while complaints are still coming .this is horrible and scary
OMG I just saw that.
Banks closed until Tuesday. Lots to sort out then.
This is truly frightening. One shop owner was charged $12,000. Makes me wonder if it's safe to be here anymore. There are far too many of their glitches and no real support.
Meant to add, thanks for alerting us to this, JM.
It's been absolutely shocking to read that thread over in Bugs. This is horrifyingly unacceptable.
I thought the non-US-seller overcharge was bad enough -- and it's still not fixed, too -- but this takes the cake. This is a nightmare for those sellers.
EcommerceBytes have very quickly posted an article:

Good for Ecommercebytes. I figured the new forums would come back to bite them in the bum, but to be perfectly honest, it's even sooner than I expected.
Fingers crossed they get this sorted soon and take care of all those who were overcharged. Oh and in future they need to keep the monkeys away from the bananas.
Best wishes,
Yep it's starting to go viral load
Is this the US sellers or all sellers on Etsy?
The 5% issue is still on going, now this. It's a major worry.
Should we notify our banks and cc? So they have a heads up, just in case.
From the largest thread in Bugs, I seem to be seeing dollar amounts mentioned by everyone there - so it seems as though it's affecting US sellers only.
But don't quote me as gospel on that; I'm only assuming, since nobody is mentioning other currencies.
Absolutely shocking situation, even so, and yes, we should all be worried even if it isn't us this time, although I don't think we need to warn our banks etc just yet. Just keep a close watch on your Etsy account and financial accounts
But --Jeeze louise, Etsy.....
@BreezeOnTheLake this is truly awful. My heart goes out to those effected by this. No fun dealing with banks and credit cards at the best of times. Fingers crossed this is sorted asap.
My heart goes out to them too - this is a total nightmare. I would frrrrrreeeeeak out. And it could cause horrible problems for people in real terms. Also, the way Etsy lumped the refunds into an Etsy deposit instead of reversing charges back to the card involved - what a terrible idea. Oh my God I feel so bad for everyone.
I think you would have to have access to auto-billing to have been stung and I believe that is only US sellers who have access to that feature.
Yes, I think it must be only US sellers as auto-billing has been mentioned by many of those affected. Although...some have said they were not on auto billing! What a mess....
I don't have auto-billing but did have over $350 in my payment account that shouldn't have been there. I consider myself lucky especially after reading all the posts from sellers that are dealing with charges in the tens of thousands. I think this must be the biggest F up that has ever happened here. I really hope everyone affected will be able to get it sorted out without any damage to their credit or loans, etc. They owe everyone an explanation and not just the canned "we experienced an error to a small number of sellers".
Can you imagine the blow up in the old forum format?
Finally an update but still vague. https://community.etsy.com/t5/Bugs-and-Technical-Issues/Etsy-drafted-395-out-of-my-checking-today/m-...
