....your mother put your school clothes on the oven door before you dressed in the morning?
I did a research of paper towel History, and found out 2 different dates. So, it is not clear if they were invented in 1931 or 1907. Honestly, I did not know them until I got married in the 50s. My husband is a paper towel fan. Did you use paper towels or cotton cloth when you were growing up?
Maybe I should post this question in the forum This or That.
Paper towels were unknown to me when growing up in the 50's. But I was a kid LOL so who knows? Anyway, while I was raising my children I refused to buy things like this as at the time sustained forestry and/or recycling was not a thing. Cutting down trees so we could wipe up a spill seemed ludicrous. My household used cloth (cotton or linen).
History of toilet paper is interesting too! People were very resistant to it for decades before it was marketed in a way that people decided that it might be a good idea.
Remember when... women were addressed, in person or written, miss or Mrs. It was maybe until the 70s when I saw Ms. used for first time.
Oh yes! I was a Ms. in the 70's. Sure got lots of grief, questioning looks, scoffs and downright mean attitudes from others for it too. This calmed down in the 80's and it wasn't near as much "fun" to buck outdated ways.
Remember when...
a bread man stopped / stationed his Chevrolet pickup on a corner to sale his bread and maybe a few pies too
a car pushed / drove his wheel cart all over town to saling vegetables and fruits
correction on the second idea
...a man pushed / drove his wheel cart all over town selling vegetables and fruits
My Mom would call the grocer (we were one of a very few with a phone) and he would fill her tiny order and have it delivered. Majority of people did not have cars. This was early - mid-twentieth century. We didn't have a bread man but we did have a milk man.
P.S. the whole neighborhood used our phone. And when they got their own phones we all shared one line, called a party-line... we'd have to take turns. Each household had a code ring so we could know which house an incoming call was for. Anyone could listen in on other peoples calls too.
Easter was more religious. A lot of businesses closed during the whole week. Mom was protestant and the protestants had the Easter meeting on Sunday at 5:00 am because Jesus rose at that time, according with their tradition. No special menu neither chocolate eggs hunting. That was not practiced by the protestants. Dad was Catholic. You can imagine the religious conflict I grew up with. So, Easters were early woke up to the protestant church and then, go to the Catholic mass a few hours later, dressed in a beautiful pastel color dress, with a cute hat, a cute small handbag where to collect the chocolate eggs at the Catholic church garden. And a religious battle made by mom every time Dad and I return home after the mass. Yes, I still remember...
I grew up going to church, but we never went to church on Easter, because we always went to my grandparents house for the Easter weekend.
I hardly feels like Easter this year.

My grandma used to use a piece of paper towel or a square of toilet paper as a bookmark.
When I was a little girl, I used to fold a corner of the page. Then, I had to pass too many pages until I found out where was the mark.
My dad did this! I thought it was just him. He also wrote little notes to himself on napkins. Ah, I miss him. c:

Earlier this morning, I remembered a few old sayings...
- when somebody lost something, "Where is D... Tracy?" computer doesn't allow to write his name -it's dirty
- "I am going to scream like Tarzan if..."
- when somebody starting to whistling, "I don't want to hear Andy Griffin."
- when a girl dress with a few clothing, "Go get dress, you look as naked as Wonder Woman."
- when a sales person knocked on the door to offer an encyclopedia, "I don't need it, my spouse is a "walking encyclopedia" ."
My Grandma would say "you look like the wreak of the Hesperus" when us cousins came in from playing outside all day in the woods, fields and river.
I’m going to start saying some of those. Especially tarzan & Richard Tracy!

it was so common married women were only housewives and mothers, and they used to gather to play canasta.
If you have been on Etsy for quite a few years then you may remember "Treasuries " in the forums. They were always fun to watch for and it was so nice if something of yours was chosen And Etsy always let you know if you were included.
i do super loooooooove the treasuries. When they were eliminated, Google + was a similar option until it was eliminated too...
Sometime In the late 1950's my brothers and I walked home from elementary school for lunch. It was raining one day and the sidewalks were covered in angleworms escaping the saturated ground. We had to walk carefully as to not step on them and squish them... they were everywhere. Mom heated up a can of Franco-American Spaghetti for us. I'll never forget.

Remember when... we used to do family gatherings, birthdays. Oh, the birthdays. Sometimes, we ended up with some in the school, neighborhood and an extra one in the family just for only one child. We used to be so social, friendly.
Looking back, when I was a young child we had "real" birthday parties in our home ~ homemade birthday cake , lots of games (Pin The Tail On The Donkey comes to mind ... it's a wonder someone didn't get hurt). Little paper baskets filled with candy and we wore birthday hats. I hope I don't get sued for my last sentence ~~ we did not all pile in the car and meet our friends at Chucky-Cheese and play electronic games.
