It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular. It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.
You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.
Thoughts?
We can start a wine club!
Cheers everyone :D
Well, I don't drink wine, but I know many people who like to whine, so that does that qualify me to join?
i'll drink to that!
@MelsMix Mary, it was so nice of you to invite me over to your house for dinner the other day, that I want to repay it by inviting you to my house for supper.
Now which one would you like me to make for you:
Liver Loaf; or
Spicy Beef Tongue?
I also have a lovely recipe for baked beef heart and if you are feeling adventurous, I can make you liver chop suey.
So what will it be?
Sorry ! I just ate :D
Oh my!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have an amazing recipe for liver loaf that my mom used to make.......it has Spam in it.......lol. And my dad used to make beef heart stew all the time :-).
@MelsMix Mary, you've hurt my feelings, but you can make it up to me by eating a marvelous dessert.
And for dessert, I can make for you, green gelatin with coloured marshmallows and mayonnaise. Yummmm, yum.
my grandmother put green olives in green jello
PigeonP- Yes please join. Wine or whine!
Lol, @Lionfishvintage years ago in NYC there was a restaurant called Mike's American, in Hell's Kitchen, a few blocks from my apartment. Tiny little hole in the wall. They did the best little arty displays once in a while. One of them was a pairing of wines with whines. A great wine from Australia with a little sign next to it: Honey, I want to go to Florida! Not the funniest by far, but it was such a great idea! Their Elvis theme was fun visually and musically, as Elvis Costello and Elvis Presley went back to back for weeks. It actually worked.
Pigeon- I actually like the green jello with marshmellows and mayo!
Elizabeth- that's funny! Hey that place you described reminds me of Jack Rabbit Slims in the movie Pulp Fiction.
If truth be told, I so like all flavours of Jello and yes! I like green. I remember coloured marshmallow and green Jello desserts that used to pop up at a church potluck. There were always 2 or 3 of them. I was disappointed to find out that the white part, wasn't whipped cream! :)
I was on a Jello kick for about 3 months this year! It is a very nice refreshing treat.
Hey doncha know - if you add mayo to jello, it's a "salad" and you don't even need to wait for dessert!
Speaking of retro-desserts - does anyone remember "Dream Whip" ? It was DRY packets I think you added milk to, and whipped into an ersatz whipped cream. It was actually better than Cool Whip.
I consumed - once or twice - a family concoction that consisted of - green jello + mayo + shredded cabbage - onions ( I'm not kidding) - and I'm not sure what else. All mixed up and molded. SALAD.
I totally remember Dream Whip - it was so great and easy and you could always have it in the cabinet. I vaguely remember a green salad like that, but it was kind of gross :(
Salad!! ha ha
Dream whip- OMG - it was like GOLD to us kids. And yes ... waaaaay better tasting than cool whip fer sure.
@Former_Member. Back in the 50's there was a lemon pudding my mom used to make. It was made by jello brand I think. You cooked it on the stove with added water. When the water boiled you added a little itty bitty yellow ball that had real lemon in it. The ball melted and the mixture thickened and then voila...lemon pudding. Thing was my sisters and I usually stole that little yellow ball before mom could put it in the hot mix! It was pure lemon for sure! Nothing artificial about it. Sour like you wouldn't believe! We kids Loved it!
It wasn't long before all of us were banned from the kitchen when she was making that pudding. But for awhile, we girls would fight over that little ball of juicy Heaven!
@PillowDetails I know that one. My grandma used to make that. I always wanted the white part which was mayo, to be whipped cream!
I found the heart and tongue recipes in an old cookbook I was browsing, from the meat council. I think it was from the 60s.
I like liverwurst, but I'm not sure about liver loaf... hhhmmmmm.....
i'm baaaaack.
