It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular. It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.
You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.
Thoughts?
@MelsMix . centuries old wood on fire is like a crown fire. i live near redwoods. trust me, you do not bombard that type of tinderbox fire with water from overhead, you have to work ground at a distance or you risk a total collapse and it spreading. i feel bad too but miraculously they have saved the towers and main structure, and the art and relics out of the back. they have had over 500 firefighters on this thing, one got seriously injured.
my ancestry includes french and cajun french. i understand. but they will rebuild it. they have a good president there and he is honest. he says they will rebuild it.
Will agree / you made me feel a " little " better !!!! And I did hear that some artifacts were saved .....
I truly hope their president is " honest " ........
This makes me sad :(
I am so very sad for France. Tears in my eyes over the loss.
Fancy meeting you here!
Hi de ho Pigeon!
they have saved the relics and major works of art. a french billionaire has pledged a million euros to rebuild notre dame. it will be restored. the nave and the towers are saved.
I don't know why, but it was sad to see the spire collapse.
They'll restore it, but oh my! It wil take years beyond years.
@pigeonplumtree . i was shocked watching it fall. i kept thinking of quasimoto...
My brother lives in France, and he said a lot of churches are being vandalized this year, but the news isn't reporting it. He seems to think it's Muslims or Muslim sympathizers.
i had an unintentional runin with a seller. i asked if the quoted shipping rate was too high and she said she would check. it was asking over 25 usd. she said the best she could do was 11 plus 4 for her handling. i checked the exchange rate and it said that 15 for her was 11 something usd for me. but when i checked the listing again it had 21 as shipping. she got flustered, saying 15 was the best she could do. ok, then why does it show 21? i refreshed multiple times... all other options are even higher. i told her i was sorry, i guess it was not meant to be. i'm still confused though. i looked up canada conversion rate and got what i said. 15 canadian was 11 something usd as of april 15th, ie now. i'm just confused and i told her i did not mean to upset her but i had to pass. i feel bad but i still cannot understand the math mixup. any guesses?
I don't think that Etsy's currency converters nor their shipping rates for other countries are accurate.
@pigeonplumtree . no, i haven't seen the photos yet. i will look. sigh.
i wonder about the currency settings too because she said she set it for 15 canadian yet even now, if i look, it is at 21 something usd. and i think she just gave up so i gave up as well. i hope she gets customers closer to her. some sales are just not meant to be.
i have seen some photos of what remains of notre dame and it is a miracle. the rose window survived, the flying buttresses, most of the interior is almost untouched. the bell towers and bells are alright. they think the organ was saved. it is a true miracle that anything survived that inferno. macron looked relieved in his press conference. i can't get any word on the gargoyles yet but i am hoping they are alright. this was a tragedy but it could have been so much worse. firefighters risked their lives to save the relics and art.
I know! I'm amazed as well. I am sure that the fire fighters there, are specially trained to fight fires in very old structures. It is my understanding, that the fire broke out during the Paris rush hour, so fire crews may have had trouble getting to the scene on time. Paris is a very old city and their streets and buildings are structured so differently, than here in North America. I'm glad they were so skilled. They should be honoured for their bravery and quick thinking.
What a history, Notre Dame has. It must feel incredible to enter a building that is so ancient and so rich in history.
Have you ever been? I haven't. The place I would like to visit is the Palace of Versailles, because I have a great interest in the French Revolution.
@pigeonplumtree . no, i've only been to england, in 1978, and a few hours in canada in 1994. i'm happy theyt have saved all they could. i still wish i knew if they saved the gargoyles. sigh. they have protected it for so long.
as for the canadian seller she is trying her utmost to set her shipping cost to 15 canadian but it is still coming up as 17.67 usd, and that is strange. i thought usd was less than canada's currency right now. i'm hoping there is a canadian seller here on the team who can advise. my would be seller even went to her post office to find out what the cost would be. she's at work but would like to get this fixed today, as would i. any help would be appreciated.
The Canadian dollar is worth a bit less than the US at the moment.
Hey! What are you doing up?
Now, who's going to do the cooking?
I'm cooking now !!! Chicken/ rice / veggies / arugula salad...... come on over !
That sounds good. Set out the chips and dip... I'm on my way....
I went to Notre Dame in the 80's. Wow- what a rush that was. As soon as we stepped inside it was like going back in time. You could just feel the historical vibes. Amazing.
Have never been to Paris / but hearing from co workers this week that have been there ..... they all described it as an awesome place to visit.
You are lucky. I have never been inside anything that old before, but one day, I'm going to....
It must have felt very special. I know that they will rebuild it, but I can't help but think that it won't be the same, if you get what I mean.
