It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular. It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.
You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.
Thoughts?
I would think that might be allowed somewhere in one of those forum sections ... but who knows which one. You could give it a try, starting a thread about it.
If you start one, you could let us know here, since some of us are vintage sellers and we know other vintage sellers.
I don’t do social media either. :)
The problem is I don't see asking a question on there now gets as many responses as it used to be on the old forum. There is a very short window for a thread to get seen on there now so the chance of getting seen is a problem already to start with. Then there is also a problem of following up on a thread, threads now seem come and go, they disappear in the maze, people don't find it easy to follow through a thread that they have participated. Threads fall behind and get buried very fast.
OMG, that would be amazing!
I love this thread!
Like someone mentioned earlier, now we have a thread to read & participate with in the middle of the night when we can't sleep.
well, there are over 400 of us here so i'll start a thread here and not risk getting buried. :)
thanks, ovp and art and i agree, lion. :) that's why i pinned this. i also just nuked 2 spammers thanks to a heads up from elizabeth about a pair who had spammed a different team. gone now. :)
vlmkpyae- It always makes me laugh when you say you "nuked" spammers!!!! ( and thanks for doing that)
I picture them in a microwave...
lol. jeannie was great! well, on disqus we call it nuked because we get hundreds. they just go and make a new profile and we just keep banning them, it's like whack a mole. i moderate a channel with almost 6,800 followers. about 50 of us are regular posters but we get spammer waves at times. each topic gets about 300 average posts a day. we do a topic a day, with a daily hug and theme and we used to keep a week of threads open but had to cut it to 3 days because of those... nasty invaders. they hawk everything from fake e-books to x rated to just plain gibberish. i deal with this every single day so i know what to look for. ;) etsy does not have a nice ban x spammer and delete 30 days of their posts option. on the team you only have delete post by post and remove the spammer. that's it.
they are getting more creative here. they put up an avatar pic so you think they are a regular poster. sigh.
It always makes me laugh when I hear "whack a mole." :-)
I thank you for nuking the spammers too.
you're welcome, gerri. somebody has to do it. ;) i hope i remembered your name right.
Yes, you did, Catlady. ;-)
Here's something random ... my husband and his fishing buddy went shopping at Cabelas today (it's a huge sporting goods store, for those who don't know). There was a big flashy fishing boat for sale -used - for $14,000 that they were looking and dreaming over! (flashy fishing boats are usally a lot more than this - it was a deal) They started asking any woman who walked by if their husband bought that boat without discussing it with their wife first, would they divorce him? The results were 50 / 50% !! Hahaha!
a late reply / but this was HILARIOUS ! Have been to Cabelas ... I know !!!
silly question. if a fabric by its yardage, per the manufacturer's info, is listed as 45 w with a repeat of the pattern every 24, then why on earth is a seller selling a panel of it at 23 inches by 45 instead of 24?
i'm sure there is this very logical answer that is eluding me right now... she has it at 23 x 45 for 8.50 with 3.50 shipping from new york. another seller has it at 36 x 45 for 11.99 with higher shipping, 4 something from oregon, and seller 3 has same as 2 but as a pre order with no eta and no clue on shipping... can anybody make this make sense, please?
thanks.
The one that’s only 23 inches long may be all that seller has left after using the rest of it. Or the seller may have understated the length, as I do with my fabric sales. I always give an inch or more over what I state.
The one that is a preorder may be because the seller doesn’t want to order a whole bolt unless she’s sure she can sell it.
As for differences in price, that’s just retail for ya. :)
@OpenVintagePreserve . thanks. i went with precut because 5 minutes after i convoed her to ask if she ever took pics of her fabric vs just stock photos, she sent me one! she had cut it just offset of the stock photo and i bet it was end of bolt. it looked really nice. i told her i wanted that one and i'd buy in in minutes. she said great, she would send that very one. it's a htf fabric that may or may not come back on the 12th of never. and now it's shuffling off from buffalo, ie where her quilt shop is on main street. :) i bought it and wondered why. i'm not impulsive! i took a nap and realized. i'm actually thinking of crafting again! it's a nautical thremed panel and i haven't done a doll diorama with mermaids in years. so, what northcott made to be a quilt center will be used for something completely different. ;)
i think the 24 inches means they plan for 1/2 inch each side of design to hem the panel, just as you are thinking, the way they do with the selvage. i'm not making a big framed quilt, just a background and then a simple wall hanging. :)
How do you report spam convos?
I get a convo from a seller I don't know who is blatently advertising her shop.....essentially, fishing for buyers.
Who in the hell thinks its OK to convo random strangers like this? I wonder how many people she has contacted and what method she uses.
I've never heard of her before.
Psych-
How to report spam convos :
This will move the message to your Spam folder and send a copy of the message to a queue which is reviewed by Etsy Admin daily.
@Lionfishvintage, Thank you.
@Lionfishvintage . thank you, lion. i wondered that as well, but i'm not a seller so i don't have a windsheild or dashboard or whatever you guys have. :)
So ... crime is creeping into my bucolic rural neighborhood. There were a couple daytime robberies reported today at 230 P.M just about 6 blocks from me.
But for a few months now, people in white service type trucks have been casing the areas around here. No license plates. Posing as Comcast tree trimmers. When people called comcast, they said " nope - don't know who these people are- call the police"
.I 'm thinking of starting a neighborhood watch. I may end up being the only one on my street who does it.
So anyone ever do a neighborhood watch and have any advice, tips for me?
@Lionfishvintage Around here there are a few neighborhood facebook pages, and they have been successful in multiple ways. Lost and then found pets and missing packages to name two. I posted recently- did anyone just hear that sound? And 3 people answered- what the hell was that?!!! (very loud animal sounds) We're all connected even though we're all over this wee mountain we live on.
Not a lot of crime where we are. I would bet if you started a FB page and put fliers in mailboxes it might spread... especially in light of the recent robberies. FB can be really quick.
Two 'cases'- my friend's dog got loose and ran two miles up the mountain- he posted in his local FB group, and had his dog back an hour later.
Also, I shipped a large painting to a customer, and she was home when she got the 'delivered' notice. There was nothing on her porch. She posted in her neighborhood FB group, and someone saw a box that size sitting on someone else's porch. Sure enough, it was hers.
Neighborhood groups empower people and bring people together as a team- so I hope you find some success! Might there be one already?
Elizabeth- I'm on Nextdoor site. That's where we've all been exchanging info about these break ins and the sherrif has participated as well. I love Nextdoor!
Oh I will check that out! I didn't get that you were already in a neighborhood group. Sounds great. Hope this can be nipped in the bud.
Elizabeth- Thanks for your FB suggestion :)
we now have 404 members. our, 'newest member', turned out to be a spammer clone of another, using the same stock face photo. i just 86'ed both and deleted the spam topic. they are trying to lead people to a team that appears to be literally just a spam team, verrry phishy. if you see that generic face avatar it likely is a spammer. do not click on any links. yes, i know we are all adults but it is good to remind everyone. these people are sneaky. they use they hey, i made a sale, type excited sounding posts to try and trick good people knowing we are the type to be supportive. don't fall for them, it's a trap. we get them on disqus all the time too, hakwing e-books and other junk. they get instabanned. these are not naive people these are calculated spammers and some are bots. you can't yell at them it just gives them access to you. ignore them and let me or beverly know. thanks.
