It seems like there should be a single thread where team members could just gather and catch up with eachother about nothing in particular. It's nice to have other threads to discuss a particular topic, but would also be nice to have a thread where you could go to see who's around at that moment.
You know, like a never-ending, continuously running thread.
Thoughts?
It was not there this morning ! I found it late this afternoon.... i touched only to see if it was cracked / and it seemed intact ... so I left it where it was .
From what I've read it's likely not viable .... I'm off this week from work / will see if there are any birds around in the morning I guess .... but I've left it alone for now.
Lots of Robins in the yard / but I don't know where their nests are located ..... will have to look now !
Mary, you did the right thing. Leaving it where you found it was the best. Don't worry! Something will eat it and it won't go to waste.
Oh well ... no bird activity near the egg. And there are no nests in the nearest trees.
A goner :[
i'm sorry. it was not viable. i'm pretty sure the robins' nest is nearby but not right there.
my best guess is the egg was abandoned when it did not hatch and something took it away, found it a good hiding place, then came back later for it. not all eggs hatch. not all eggs are fertile. you meant well. you would have had to candle it to see what condition it was in really but i'm sure it was not going to hatch. hugs.
@MelsMix Just seeing your post now, but at this time of year in the Northeast, Robins typically make nests in evergreens - well hidden, so that's where it likely would be. Their next nest will be in deciduous shrubs or trees once the leaves are out.
Just because it's been on the ground for a while does not necessarily mean it is not hatchable, though. Birds only lay one egg per day and for Robins, they must all hatch on the same day, so the mother would not start setting until she has laid all 4 eggs which would be on the 4th day. Eggs don't begin to incubate until the mother starts to set. Until then, the cold won't matter unless it is below freezing. But after she starts to set, the eggs must be kept warm. So it will depend upon whether she's setting or not yet.
Sometimes birds will knock an egg out of the nest if it is not going to develop. Sometimes it is blown out or another creature takes it out, but in that case, I'd think it would be eaten. It may never have begun to incubate. In which case, there is no baby bird in there yet anyway. So I wouldnt worry about it too much.
That's what I was thinking as well... some birds do reject their eggs. I remember talking to a naturalist about it once.
And just to add: it's probably best to do as you did and just leave it since you can have no idea of why it is there. If it fell out, it likely won't develop because it was shaken. If a non-viable egg is put back into the nest, it can eventually explode making a stinking mess! Nature is hard sometimes.
Thanks for all the info ! Have left it where I found it for now !
The robins are starting to build nests around here, and the blasted sparrows won't leave them alone. I hate sparrows with a passion, so we don't put out seed that they like and put out bird houses with holes too small for them to get into. Even so, they are horrible when the native birds are trying to feed or build nests!
why would a seller follow me? i plan to buy one of her items tomorrow but i'm only a buyer. how does following a buyer help a seller?
They think that by following you, you will like them and likely buy from them.
@pigeonplumtree . is that a thing?
oh, and just this morning i got a notice that an item i had put a heart on had a coupon code for 10 percent off. it was sent at 6:30 am. i convoed seller to ask a question. it's not almost 1pm pdt and no reply. so she was awake at 6:30 am to send a code but not to answer an item question? seems odd to me...
i only just discoved the seller can send you a code thing... it reminds me of amazon, lol.
It must be a thing. I think some sellers on here will do anything to get their shop noticed. That has happened to me plenty of times. But what I don't get is... I keep my favourites confidential and yet, I have followers.
@pigeonplumtree . well, my, 'follower', has an item i want. but i convoed her days ago and got no reply. why follow me but not reply? she's not the code sender, that's a different one.
i have to say that some of the etsy sellers are so very friendly and helpful it reminds me of ebay last decade. :)
I convoed a seller days ago and she didn't get back to me either.
If you got the code in your email etsy sent it. We can make a code that they auto send to people who fave or leave something in their cart. If it came through the convo system it was directly from the seller.
@Abbeyoaks . thank you! so she did not get up at 6:30 am to mail it and then ignore me, a bot did it? lol. but why not when i actually put the heart on it instead of days later? what was she thinking?
Etsy decides when to send them I think it's done after so many hours or a certain number of times a week, so they can combine them all into one email. If I fave 5 items from 5 shops on the same day and they all offer a coupon I'm then supposed to get 1 email with all 5 codes instead of 5 emails. The cart ones are supposed to be sent after the cart has been abandoned for 24 hours.
They also only send them to people who opt into their emails. I have both set up and it barely sends any out. They used to charge to do it, but they offered a free month before Christmas then decided to leave it free.
You make a good point that I had not thought of. How can buyers know the coupons are auto sent by Etsy and not the seller? It can leave room for misunderstandings, I think.
@Abbeyoaks . ok, thanks. so much for thinking it was personal... honestly i have even put hearts on things just because they are pretty and i want to see them on my page. i don't leave anything in a cart. i found save for later and i use that. i cannot find an option to put them on a wishlist like amazon has.
They really should have wish lists. I do that also, Mark things I like. I stopped when they started charging to send the emails because I felt bad the seller would be paying when I didn't have the I mention to buy then. Since they stopped charging I started faving again. I'm wondering if faving dropped a lot during that time? As @ZehOriginalArt said it is confusing since buyers wouldn't know it's something Etsy does. Sellers aren't allowed to convo them to people who fave their items it's considered spam.
@ all three of you. that's not fair that a seller can't just convo. that's not polite that a seller did not reply. and they really should note that it was a bot that sent the coupon code so you don't get confused like i did. said seller with coupon code at 6:30 am still has not replied to my question...
@Former_Member. Gotta disagree with you on this one girl. It's probably true that most people 'follow' in the hopes of getting a sale from them. But there are others (like myself) that will follow simply because I really do appreciate what their shop carries and their talent. Some are just being nice and supporting that shop by following.
@SewNSewSister . but we were talking about a seller following a buyer, not vice versa.
