I think it probably just needs a new pulley or something. I never should've put that shag rug in there! 🙄 I googled diy fixes and, honestly, replacing a part looks pretty simple. BUT you literally have to take the entire machine apart to get to those parts. Most likely I could take the thing apart and do the repair, but I'm afraid I would never get it back together again!😂 Guess I'm calling the repair company. Sure would be nice if manufacturers built appliances that were easy to maintain.
Good luck! Hope it isn't too expensive to repair.
The last time I called the appliance repair guy was about five years ago. My old washer was acting up and I figured it was on it's way out, poor thing was on the job for over twenty years. As it turned out, it was the metal underwire from my bra that was mucking up the works. The underwire went missing at least a year previous to this....so weird how that little piece of curved metal migrated from the fabric of the bra through the holes in the washing machine drum.
Huh, so they removed the wire and it ran just fine? Makes you wonder what else could be rolling around in there. My repair guy is coming by tomorrow. He's worked on my dryer once before when it needed a new thermostat. Very responsive and not too expensive. Hope he can fix it.
It didn't seem to be anything other than the underwire and he didn't charge much as I recall. I ended up getting a new set from him about 5 months later, plus my microwave died shortly after that which he removed and replaced. I love dealing with those small business people that service and sell. It's so much easier and quicker to do business with them than the big box stores.
Our dryer has been running for almost 25 years. My hubby fixed it once before we were married and it and the washing machine have been steady ever since. Good luck with yours.
We JUST replaced 34 year old washer and dryer. I was shocked when the first repair person told me how old they were- came with the house. We kept them until they really couldn't be repaired any longer. But that's a long life for a hard-working machine! They served us well. The guy who installed the new ones, asked if he could take the old ones. So, may still be at work! Perhaps in parts and pieces...
Elizabeth, how do you like your new set?
When ours was making so much noise, everyone told us it was the belt. Even the repair man that came out said it was the belt (and changed the belt). It solved the problem for a total of 3 weeks.
It turned out that the -real- reason was that the bushings (thick felt padding around the rim of the dryer's drum) had worn down. So when your repairman comes out, if he doesn't mention anything but the belt? Make sure you have him check the padding for the drum as well.
Ah, good call!!! Thanks for mentioning that.
@CutiePieSoaps Love them. A little high tech at first (compared to what we had!), but so efficient. Senses when things are dry, and stops, rather than continuing the whole cycle. Handles doormats and runners too!
My washer is beginning to get my feet wet after almost 30 years. I knew there was a reason that God gave me a good February!
