I have a gmail account for my shop here but don't think I've ever used Google +.
I don't know what gmail inbox is exactly but from what I've read, when the take it away , gmail will still be there.
I have been using a free website from Google, which I believe will disappear. ;-( I will have to find another way to have a website, since my business cards have my web address on them.
Thats a shame BlueSpruce- A hassle for you to have to find another site.
blue, back up everything asap. worry about a new website after you have all your data saved. trust me. i have watched whole galleries go poof overnight, no backup, no cached versions. once you have things saved you find a new webhost and you can put a redirect on it that explains what happened. you set it up so anything going to old defuct url will redirect to a new website. my husband and i are on hostgator. it's not free but it is pretty decent and has lots of room and email addresses you can use if you need them. and it has a whole bunch of support. as paid hosts go it's pretty good. we've been on them for years.
good luck.
Good morning:
I did a researched and found out www.MeWe.com is as free as Google.
Hillarius, its website wrote and article about the "google refugees" moving to MeWe.
I never used Google+ but do have my gmail connected to my phone's email app. I guess I'll see if it's still working come April. I don't think that gmail itself will be going away but mail may be redesigned. @BlueSpruceCrafts I would save any photos and text from that site before it's too late.
Don't worry. :) Gmail isn't shutting down. Just the "Inbox app" which is being combined into Google's Gmail service. The app was often used to test out new ideas and features before those features were released to Gmail as a whole.
I used Google+ for quite a while as a networking tool, but it's very unwieldly and not particularly user friendly. I abandoned it some time ago.
Here is an informative article about what's going on.... Found Here
Thanks Gathering!
@GatheringCharms Thanks for that info. I had no idea of what the "gmail inbox app" was.
To all: Yes, I have saved my photos and text, but thank you anyway for reminding me.
I used to use Google+ for each post to my blog on Blogger. But I never got much of a reaction from Goggle+, so I wasn't surprised when they decided to shut it down. And I have several gmail accounts for various internet shops, it helps to keep things seperate. It doesn't sound like those will change much. If they decided to shut down Blogger, I'd be really upset! I have one business blog that I've been posting to for over 10 years now. And the one I use the most is for promoting artists here on Etsy and other places. It gets alot of traffic and I paid Google for a domain name. It's a .info domain name since I use it for posting about artists. It was my response to them taking our treasuries away.
So I sure hope there won't be any changes to it! I do still have all of the links and photos, etc. But I wouldn't want to have to start over or move almost 800 posts to a new website.
@Pedricks. back up all your content now. sites can go down for any number of reasons without warning. get your content saved on a flash drive so you have it as backup. every webhost tells you to do this and most have a link to d/l your backups from. good luck.
@vlmkpyae I always back everything up. I also back-up once a week to an external hard drive. I designed and built my main website, so of course I have all of it's files stored on my computer as well. Ha, ha! Every Sunday, I remind all of my Facebook friends to back-up their files no matter what. Yes, stuff happens. Usually when you least expect it.
Hubby had used Google+ once to send a Large PDF file to someone that was no longer available on line. This was done after printing out the instructions from the person receiving the pdf file. While it didn't seem super complicated it also didn't seem "intuitive" in operation. And apparently we could still access that file & send to others (or so we've been told) as google+ stored it for us. So if you did use the feature & you no longer have those files anywhere else, you need to retrieve & save.
Oh wow, this post startled me as I use Gmail, I'm glad it's not going away.
I don't have a cellphone so no phone apps for me.
Best wishes,
