For anyone who sells on eBay

I tried to make a purchase recently as a guest (I no longer have an account on eBay, it's a long story), but when I tried to check out with Paypal, the system said this seller can use Paypal next year, does anyone know what this means?  I don't remember seeing it when I was on eBay regularly some years ago.

Best wishes,

No idea BDLJ. It seems PayPal is being phased out gradually. I hope not. I use it a lot.

Re: For anyone who sells on eBay

Oh wow, really?  That is really stupid of eBay, as I only use Paypal when I shop online; if a shop doesn't accept Paypal, I move on.

Glad Etsy isn't doing something this stupid. :)

Re: For anyone who sells on eBay

@BigDogLadysJools From what I remember when they parted company PayPal was no longer their choice of payment.  They were looking for an alternative system. Think I read it on the forums. I really hope I'm wrong as still getting all my payments through PayPal. Like you I don't want my income tied to the platforms I use for selling. Gives too much control in one place.

Re: For anyone who sells on eBay

Googled 'is ebay doing away with paypal?' and the following returns came up. I'm simply a buyer there but do wonder how this will affect seller.

"After the existing eBay-PayPal agreement ends in 2020, PayPal will remain a payment option for shoppers on eBay, but it won't be prominently featured ahead of debit and credit card options as it is today. PayPal will cease to process card payments for eBay at that time."

"EBay will start processing payments using PayPal rival Adyen. When customers check out, they will have the option to stay on eBay and use Adyen's services orleave the website and use PayPal. Adyen will also provide reduced costs for sellers and a simpler pricing structure"

Re: For anyone who sells on eBay

Thanks, that's good to know.  As long as they don't do away with it entirely, that's cool.  I don't buy much on eBay these days anyhow, but there was something I wanted for my bro (that I couldn't find anywhere else).  Guess I'll have to get him something else for his b'day.

Re: For anyone who sells on eBay

Teddyrose, I agree and it's one of the many reasons I won't integrate my Paypal and Etsy payments, plus if something happens with one site, I want to be able to use the other.  Also I can use Paypal funds for other stuff besides paying bills, I almost never dip into my bank account except for bills.

Best wishes,

Paypal has a rival....yeah, I read this but I rarely buy on eBay anymore so it didn't stick with me.

PayPal has been good, never had a problem with them. I hope they don't phrase out PayPal = |
