Embroidery program question

Hey folks, I have a question.     I closed my shop down a while back since my art was not selling well.  It sells better in person.   A friend of mine was saying I should open up an etsy shop that sells embroidery designs.      That would be fun but do you need a certain program to make the designs so people can download them from their computer?   I don't embroider so how do you pick out the right colors for the designs?   I have a ton of questions.   Is there a website I could maybe learn from?  I like the idea but not sure how to go about it.

this one of yours is adorable. :) many of your drawings, while cute, are just too complicated to embroider and would be much better to quilt instead. do some online research into how to create quilt patterns. try youtube videos.
