Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hey guys, just switched to new layout today, I'm confused and I don't like it!

New house is a lot of work, we need to move in next week so spent yesterday painting up the work room, and I'm wrecked today, but cufflinsk to be made so I best get to it. Can't wait to be moved in though :)

@Gayle I'll be doing my taxes in July or August again, did it that way last year and it was such a weight off and is one of the quietest times of year for me.

@ Rosemary Etsy has been doing all right for me this month, mostly wedding rings though, it seems to be wedding season and now getting towards fathers day the cufflinks are starting to sell.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi folks

Hope the sales are picking up for everyone. I'm so glad to get my tax return done but now the work and study has piled up! Plus the campaign to save Cynon Valley Museum and Gallery has picked up a pace too. We are putting together a Trust which the council will hopefully allow to take on the building!

Have a great weekend -
Gayle

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Evening everyone. Sorry not to have been around much. Hectic life here as always. However, the shop side has been much quieter this month.

Congrats on the house Sarah Jane. It's hard work, but you'll be in there soon :)

Ooh, stop talking about taxes!!! I need to get ours sorted out, but we are going over to France in a week or so, and I'm going to try and do them then - at least getting everything recorded on my spreadsheets. You're so good you lot!

I've been following your campaign to save the museum and gallery, Gayle. Fingers crossed. Glad sales are good for you - just not here on ETSY!!

Can't join the meet-up in June as we're not back until the middle of July :( :(

I'm trying to get all the baby shoes I knitted over the last few weeks, sewn up and listed. But I seem to have spent the day cleaning as we have family over tomorrow and they are staying the night. Still, the house is clean now..hehe.

I'll try to be more 'vocal' in June...take care - Kim x

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Ooh congrats on the house move Sarah Jane!! Hope you have lots of lovely years in your new home :)

Great news on the sales too Brenda! A nice start to the month.

I'm going nuts trying to cut out as much as I can for Laura to make, because we are back to France next week until the middle of July...it's too long for my liking :(

Bit fed up with all this rain though. It doesn't help with trying to get the outside of the house painted.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi all

You all seem manically busy - with sales, houses and getting items ready for sale!

If July looks good for a meet up how about coming down to my exhibition with hubby at the Norwegian Church? We there 7-12th July and we can have a cuppa in their cafe on a day that suits people!?

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Congrats on the house move Sarah-Jane. I bet it's a relief to have it all done and dusted. So many things can go wrong when buying a house.

A meet-up is a lovely idea. Unfortunately I can't venture too far from home at the moment. I don't have my own transport (hubby is currently working in Ireland with our vehicle) and also have pets to look after. Getting to and from Cardiff via public transport would take forever. I'm not even sure it would be feasible in one day. However, if my circumstances change in the meantime I will do my best to make it.

I just saw etsy's UK Ad on YouTube:

Let's hope it brings in lots of new customers!

All the best, Rosemary X

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

I should be able to do sometime in the 7-12.

Still trying to get on top of the house, boxes everywhere, the workroom is mostly ready to go but thats about it, today I plan on getting the bathroom sorted and either the kitchen or started on the front garden. So much work!

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi there,

Is there anyone on the team who sells vintage Welsh linens? I just returned from a visit and couldn't find any vintage linens in the stores.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi there Carey Ann. Good to see you. Which part of Wales did you visit?
Wales is best know for its woollen fabrics and there are lots of shops selling it. So far as I know, there hasn't been much, if any, linen/cotton manufacture here - that was mostly associated with the north of England and Northern Ireland. Women did of course do a lot of embroidery here but the items embroidered were usually not discernibly different from those made elsewhere in the UK (though many antique samplers have survived which use the Welsh language)

When it comes to cotton-based textiles, Wales is probably best known for its quilting traditions. There are a couple of dealers in Wales who specialise in antique quilts. If quilts are of any interest to you, I can dig out their names.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi there everyone.
I have just been sent details of an etsy Photo School in July. It seems that teams are being invited to host their own workshops locally - and to organise team members who wish to attend into pairs etc.
I'm not in a position to host this unfortunately. I am hoping to go to Ireland for a few weeks over the summer (to meet up with absent hubby!). Apart from that, there is no room to swing a cat in my house - and I doubt many of you would want to travel up to Gwynedd anyway!
However, if any of you would really like to be involved and would like to organise your own workshop where you live please let me know and I can send you an email link where you can download all the details.

It so nice to see all this glorious weather isn't it?
All the best, Rosemary

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi Rosemary,

I did find one item that was cotton and embroidered. I don't really need linen but wanted cotton. I couldn't find any welsh wool in the second hand stores!

I stayed in the Gower and visited Brecon Beacons. I studied for a year at Swansea University.

If you can find some old Welsh embroidery, let me know.

Thanks.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hey guys
Sorry I know nothing about linen :(
Rosemary, where in Ireland you off to? The photo school could be fun, I'm up for hosting something at mine in Caerphilly if people want? we're still only getting set up though so people may need to bring some chairs :) but we're just off the train line and we have a garden so could work well maybe?

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Carey Ann: it's 'Bopa' here under my usual ID! You stayed in a beautiful part of Wales. Welsh wool is very popular so it doesn't usually hang around in the charity shops for long. It's snapped up right away! I don't often see Welsh embroidery but will let you know if I do

Sarah-Jane: I just sent you an email link with details of the etsy photo school. It could be fun!
Hubby is in co. Clare at the moment. Looking forward to seeing him again! Also, I have never seen the west coast of Ireland (I made the trip to Dublin many years ago) so that will be a treat. I just hope he doesn't decide to come back home before I have had a chance to visit!

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hi Bopa,

Thanks for the help. I should have been more precise in asking for linens. I was interested in cotton but always refer to this as linens since here in America, we say linens when referring to our cotton items.

After visiting the west coast of Ireland last week, I would highly recommend you visit. The people and area is enchanting and peaceful.

Please keep me posted if you find any vintage cotton handkerchiefs, table covers, napkins, etc.

Sarah, there is a great coffee shop across from Caerphilly which also serves food.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hello,

I am looking for a Welsh dragon digital download, suitable for a Brother embroidery machine.

Does anyone on the team have this image available for sale?

Thanks.

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

How's everyone getting on? Sales are ticking over slowly enough for me but at least some are trickling in. Still unpacking boxes! Sigh! Loving my new work room and kitchen though!

Re: Chat Thread for 2014

Hope you get the boxes unpacked soon - we still have ones in the loft not unpacked after nearly 4 years! And with the new gallery set to go through in the next few weeks I'm imagining we'll be boxing stuff up like we are moving again very soon! Groan box moving...painting DIY...solicitors...insurance...well be worth it in the end!

If anyone around next week near Cardiff Bay I'll be at the Norwegian Church 11-4 Mon - Sat & 2-4 on Sunday www.facebook.com/gaylerogersart
