Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! A Happy New Year to you all!

Here's a new chat thread for a new year. The threads get far too long unless we start a new thread at least once per year!

Let's hope the sales fairy looks kindly on us all. Hopefully all our shops will go from strength to strength during 2013 - and we can continue to provide each other with moral support via these threads. Etsy can be a bit of a roller coaster at the best of times - so it's good to know we can turn to friends for advice and a receptive ear!

If any members of this team have not yet contributed to the chat threads but would like to do so - please feel free to just leap in! We'd love to hear from you. Make it your new year's resolution!!

Hope the sale fairy has visited everyone. Feels like cyber monday is actually having an effect on sales for me this year which is nice :)

Nice to hear that Sarah :) I had a couple of Etsy sales over the weekend I had coupon codes & no-one used them lol I also had lots of sales at the market :) & 2 sales today on Ebay which are Faeryn's clothes she grew out of & not handmade. I am also killing myself to get 4 scarves & 4 hats knitted by the 21st I have finished 1 hat & half way through 1 scarf. OH MY

Online here is quiet as usual and the dark side is ticking along- but face to face sales at fairs/exhibitions been good.

Sales have picked up a bit, but that means more work for me at the moment, because Laura is just finding it impossible to find time to sew. Naomi is not settling long enough in the day and sadly not in the night either. Poor Laura is feeling the effects of the lack of sleep now. I had Naomi for her this morning so that she could go and have her hair done and I think she appreciated the break. Her husband is very good, but obviously as he is working she has to do all the night-time feeds and settling. Ah well, one of these days she'll start to settle and they can get into a better routine.

I'm debating whether to put the shop on holiday mode nearer to Christmas, because I too would like a bit of a break. But I've heard a mix of feelings about doing that and don't really want it to affect our sales. Bit of a tricky one that.

I'm off to bed in a mo and try and get a good night's sleep so that I can get cracking on orders tomorrow.

Yes sad to hear that Nelson Mandela has gone- it seems surreal. Put's things into perspective.

It's ticking along here ok- but the fairs have been a bit of a killer - lord knows how people work and have kids! I'm well pooped so I think I'll put etsy on holiday mode- but I hardly get any orders here so won't really make a difference to me- but I can see how it will affect others who do well here.

Hope everyone is having good sales for Christmas.....
Gayle....fab idea taking an armchair to craft fairs...better still bring the people to your armchair at home....so nice and cosy and warm indoors.
I paint while watching tv so that would make it all perfect.
I don't put my shops in holiday mode as I had sales on Christmas day last year !! There are always lonely people who come online and have Christmas money to spend.
Question......is it OK in January to start a new listing thread for January? At the moment, we are showing our items on the MAY thread...ha ha......or maybe leave it until May and then we would be correct...lol.....
I am going to my cousin's in Glynneath for Christmas dinner....she loves to cook..I hate cooking...good arrangement
The sea in Swansea bay looks like a sheet of frosted glass today......I find it very odd but even though I cannot actually see the beach, I can tell when it is a high tide....not sure why that is......very strange....

Morning everyone. What a lovely sunny day to wake up to. Cold but dry :) Hope everyone's Christmas preparations are coming along well.

I think a new listing thread for January would be a good idea Brenda. A fresh start for the year :)

When do you arrive in the UK Karen?

I haven't done any crochet or knitting for ages, so I'm hoping to get some done over the holidays...you never know:)

Baby Naomi is beginning to settle a bit and Laura is looking a lot better for it. She even said she was itching to start sewing again which is a good sign!

I have put a message in the shop rather than going on holiday mode, so hopefully people will read it!!

I've a list of things to be getting on with today, so better make a start.

Hey guys, just thought I'd pop by quickly to say hi, I'm manic busy but so exhausted I'm having trouble getting going this morning. Only keeping the shops going a day or two more though, cause I think I might crack otherwise!

In other news, nearly set the bathroom on fire the other night! Our light is broken so I lit some candles to relax in the bath when I got home from Bristol and the candle itself went on fire and I had to use the fire exthinguisher and then spend ages cleaning powder up! It was like something from Mr Bean! I wont be lighting candles again anytime soon!

Sarah-Jane watch those candles- must have been scary! Good job you had a fire extinguisher.
On a less dramatic note I dropped a tub of vanilla yoghurt ( which didn't taste very nice either!) down the side of the fridge freezer- and under it and all over the floor.
It was incredibly difficult to pull the fridge freezer out - but I managed it but scratched and dented one side on a metal edging!
Yay! LOL

Anyway hope no one else has anymore disasters!

It's ten minutes to midnight here now and I am finally sitting down for the evening. Just had a very relaxing bath though after spending hours hoovering and tidying up. I should have done it days ago but I have been busy with all the usual festive rounds - card writing etc.
Just about to pour myself a very large sherry and do my Santa impression while I pack the stocking presents for my (grown up - well almost!) sons.
Looking forward to having the day off tomorrow (hubby does all the cooking) before visiting family on Boxing Day.

I hope to be back in evidence more during 2014. The last few months have been a huge worry. Hubby hasn't had any work and sales here on etsy have been very slow - so I have been forced to spend more time on ebay. However, we're hopeful that hubby will have some work in a couple of months' time - which will give me a bit more 'space'. It will be nice to catch up with you all.

By all means start a new thread for promotions/new listings Brenda. I'm not sure who started the last one but it makes no sense to still be listing everything under May - or March - or whatever it is!! Maybe start a new one each year or, if it gets too long, each new 'Season'.

I will try to start a new thread for listings on Wednesday......when I eventually get up....ha ha....the joys of being a retired old biddy.
I have been doing well on etsy lately....I am sure it is down to daily listings....and I have also been doing well on the auction site and the other side...beginning with F,.....
I kept my shops open over the holidays and had sales on Boxing day !!
Hope everyone is keeping warm and that we don't get that nasty white stuff....roll on Spring.

Evening everyone. Hope you all had a great Christmas and have plans for the New Year.
We are having a quiet New Year's Eve, just hubby and me....so nice after the hectic week we've just had :)

I've got lots of plans for Cwtch Bugs for the New Year, just need to get my act into gear and get onto them....so does Laura!!

Looking forward to listing all our new stuff (when we make some) on the new thread.

Every year we stay up and look around the bay at everyone's fireworks....then hot choccie and bed......too old for partying now....lol......not sure why we even bother to stay up but it IS nice to watch all the fireworks going off

Glad to hear that your sales were good over the holidays Brenda. I was quite pleased with mine too. It made a refreshing change!

I have no great plans for this evening either. A glass (or two!) of Baileys and watching the traditional music (from Scotland) on the telly. I live with a houseful of traditional musicians and New Year's Eve is the only night of the year when the mainstream television channels show any decent traditional Scottish or Irish music! So we make the most of it!

Let's hope we all have a prosperous 2014 here on Etsy.
