Hi -- i'm friends with a great woman who since October 2011 lost both breasts to cancer, and discovered she also had ovarian cancer and had a full hysterectomy. During this horrendous year of surgeries and fighting and chemo she says the thing that made her really cry was when she lost her hair. She had no idea how much she identified her womanhood through her hair until it was gone. She bought a wig and 2 hats and the price of them grated on her nerves with all the medical expenses she had to pay.
So.... she came up with the idea of The Fabric of Hope. You can read about it HERE: www.facebook.com/TheFabricOfHope?fref=ts
Their goal is to provide hats FREE to anyone undergoing cancer treatments. The reuse old sweaters and make hats from donated fabric, etc. She also has a dedicated group of 3 or 4 knitters/crocheters helping her. I'm not good at sewing or needlecrafts, (I have managed 2 crocheted hats for her but I unraveled as much as I hooked!!) but I like to think I AM good at begging (ha)..... so, that is what led me to seek out community groups on Etsy.
Please check out her page, and if you feel comfortable, please ask your members to just make and donate ONE HAT. She has such a hard time keeping up with requests and everything will help. Again, thanks so much, and if you have any other questions, and want to participate, please let me know!! :) I
Happy hooking!!
