Real Help & Advice for Sellers

I thought this would be a great thread, because as we know, sometimes our questions and queries don't get answered and when they do, they are not helpful at all!

So use this thread to ask anything and get advice about selling.

Geniune help and support for each other is what this thread is about! So, ask away!

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

And first off,

I just placed an 'ad' starting for tomorrow. Anyone else placed 'ads' and have actually produced sales from it?

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

As in search ads? I haven't but have seen plenty of discussions on the etsy success group... hang on...

*goes hunting for wabbits*

http://www.etsy.com/teams/5002/etsy-success/discuss/9539522/ was the best of the lot that I remember... a lot of people had said no, and the most recent threads about it haven't got too many responses. but have a search in the group if you're interested in seeing more results.

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

It is bizzare. It seems some people have some relative success with search ads. But most don't at all. The more money you spend on the ads, the more likely you will get orders. And that isn't a large margin in profits at all!

My ad starts in about 45 mins according to american time. It is 12.18 pm here in London!

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

I have done them twice. Lots of views and favs. Not one sale BUT those views and favs are important as they allegedly bump you up in the search engine and I will say that my sales took off after that. Most of my traffic is driven by me to etsy via twitter and facebook and blogs and my sales are a combo of that traffic and very specific searches.

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

I am currently updating my photos (again) lol

It is so hard to take photos, of jewellery, especially pearls, and to stand out from all the other jewellery shops on etsy.

I have taken advice to make my shop more uniformed.. and hpefully I have. It would be great for some feed back???

I have to stop updating for now, as I am cooking a roast chicken for dinner atm! lol

Oh Katie, Well DONE! The shop looks lovely and cohesive and I love the book as a background. I have seen others do it so unsuccessfully but you nailed it! LOVE the way everything looks. Ok I am off to tweet, post and sing your praises from the rooftops. Did I mention I havent had much sleep?

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

My search ads just ended this morning. Here's my stats:

Spent $4.12 USD
Impressions 4,140
Views 19
Favorites 3
Orders 0
Revenue $0.00 USD

Pathetic. I do better promoting my items myself for free.

Be careful that Etsy doesn't automatically start your ads up again if you've check off an end date. I just went to check my stats to post here and found that they had renewed the ads again for another week. I've been checking them every day for a week and I made sure it was checked off to stop at 8 am this morning (I even checked again this morning). So imagine my surprise when I found the ads renewed for other week even though I had it checked off to stop this morning. I stopped them but not before they got more money out of me.

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

Hmmm no, mine seems to be fine. Thankfully.

Another question;

I have now got my own wesbite; www.uniquelyyoujewellery.co.uk and on it I can create my own shop interface - I planning on doing this once a few of my items on here have ended their listing period. However, should I really create my own shop?

Pros: no selling fees, its a direct link to just me and my items and no one elses, no need to register to buy from me, I can completely manage the layout and look of the shop. Everything is all in one place.

Cons: no stats, perhaps not much traffic, unless I invest in ads. Won't have the feedback like here on etsy, no confirmation email automatically sent.

Anyone have any advice and even considering doing their own online shop?

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

Definitely standing up my own site later this year. I find most of my sales are generated by me anyway and while I enjoy this team I dont see much more benefit long term. But its a great way to get started.

Re: Real Help & Advice for Sellers

I thinking about doing a slow introduction into my own online shop. As listings end I will move them over to my other shop.
