This is probably going to be a soppy thread, but who cares!

My mum was telling me when she met my dad, many years ago, and I thought it was quite sweet.

My mum when she was 19, worked as a receptionist. Her surname then, was White. And my dad was a client in the organisation and used to call up my mum, saying, 'hello Miss White, this is Mr Black...' (My dads surname is Privett.) My mum hated it and him!! Until one day he had a meeting with her boss and my dad charmed my mum into a date and they got married when she was 21 and they are still together!

So I was wondering, how did you meet your partners?

Re: How did you meet your partner?

oOO I don't have sugar in my tea or coffee. I don't have a sweet tooth like you but I do like my deserts!

Me and my partner are completely chalk and cheese when it comes to background and up bringing. He is what you would call 'Posh'. His family are relatively wealthy, not rich, but comfortable. And they managed to send him through Private Education. His family are members of an exclusive private members club called 'The Hurlingham' which sits on the River Thames. So they are used to a lavish sort of lifestyle dead bang in central London.

Meanwhile, me and my family grew up more in the suburbs of London, I was deemed 'Posh' by my surroundings, but I really werent! We were boardering poverty and were lucky we had food on the table each day. We aren't so bad now! I am the only person in my family who went to University. My parents would never dream of joining an exclusive club or splash out on a huge family meal. My mum is always looking for a bargain. I went to state school and had a poor education - but I did alright out of it considering.

So yeah, our backgrounds are completely different - but we love each other so much. Only occasionally our backgrounds collide. He doesn't really like traveling to see me, which is understandable - because - the first time he did he nearly got mugged! I was there and laughed the attempted mugger down and we walked away - It was my area, I knew what to do. So I always go and see him. Which after 4 years, can be tiresome!

Re: How did you meet your partner?

Hi all, I really should spend more time on this forum because it really is a lot of fun!

My husband and I had a mutual friend way back in the mid-80's. I worked with the guy and he kept trying to fix me up with his friend. I kept saying no because the friend had just ended a serious relationship and based on his behavior (ahem, we won't talk about that), he was still getting over it. During that time I moved into my first apartment and invited my coworkers over for a small party. My guy friend asked if he could bring a friend and I said sure. The guy he described was not the friend he kept trying to fix me up with, that much I know. Well, the day arrives and these two guys arrive at my door and my coworker introduces me to _____. It's the guy he's been trying to fix me up with for months. He was cuuuute!! Turns out he was very nice and funny and sweet and paid attention to me all night. ;-) There was a little bit of drinking and flirting going on. The next day I spent the day nursing a headache (hehe) and thinking about him. When I got back to work my coworker said his friend wants to call me so I let him give him my number. We spoke on the phone for hours before we even had our first date. At the time he had lost his license for DUI (I told you he did some things that made me think he hadn't gotten over the previously relationship) so he'd ride his bicycle across the city to see me. I tried to take it slow but at the same time I knew he was the one. I'd had a few relationships before him. When we met it was during an 18 month break between boyfriends (it was my choice to take a break from men). I was ready and he moved in with me only two months after we met. We were engaged a little over a year later and married two years after that. We celebrated our 21st wedding anniversary last Sept. I almost forgot, he came with a daughter, who just turned 31, and we have two teenagers of our own. We've been through a lot together. We've definitely had our ups & downs but we're still together. He can make me laugh like no one else can. :)

Re: How did you meet your partner?

Andi: mmm Aussie Shiraz :D I'm not sure what you'd be able to get over there of ours... I'd assume Jacob's Creek, Rosemount, Penfolds?

Re: How did you meet your partner?

We get Jacobs Creek.

I tend to drink french, italian and south african wines. I am such a snob! lol

My favourite wine tipple at the moment is a south african white, sauvignon blanc called springfield estate. Gorgeous!

Re: How did you meet your partner?

My husband and I met when we were freshmen in college. We were 18. He needed a date for a dance and someone he knew suggested me but he wouldn't go to the dance with me without meeting me first.

We clicked immediately and eloped 4 months later. We both finished our college degrees and have been married for 43 years.

Re: How did you meet your partner?

Katie: Try and find some obscure Aussie wines, (ie: avoid the 3 i listed to Andi lol) they really are lovely! It's hard to make suggestions because all I get are boutique wines these days from the cellar doors which don't ship overseas.. but really, we do a good Riesling, and the Shiraz and Cab's are beautiful from the Barossa!
