Hello :)

Hi everyone! I'm new to this team (and to selling on etsy!) I started my etsy shop back in november of 2011 but had NO idea what on earth I was doing. I had often heard my friends and family saying that I should start to sell but for some gosh darn reason my items never would! lol So early february I went to my very first craft fair where I got lots of advice for selling on etsy which was great for me since now I've finally managed a few sales in! whoot whoot
I would love a honest critique on my shop of where I could improve things! What items you think I should add and what items I could probably toss
Thanks!

Re: Hello :)

Hi Emily,

Firstly, congratulations on your sales to date, I'm a slightly jealous newbie.

One thing I did notice in your shop are your photo's. Your bows and garters are incredibly cute and unique, and your photo's are lit well and clear but they're mostly from the same angle (details included). I would definitely suggest you include at least one photo of each being modeled. I realize that with a garter that's potentially a little more difficult, but shoppers like to see what they're buying and how it looks. And then perhaps shooting them at from different sides or angles, or resting on a simple prop that will highlight each.

I hope this helps, and good luck!!!!

Ian

Re: Hello :)

It looks like your seasonal items are selling best right now, I'd encourage you to stay ahead the seasons and think about what you might be able to make bows for next, then feature those items on your page.

You could also do a line of school colors bows that might sell well to cheerleader/school spirit types, fourth of july bows, halloween bows, straight up rainbow bows.

Re: Hello :)

Ian- thanks for compliment! I agree with you on the photos, I would love to have some girls model the stuff but my friends shy away from modeling the garters (even though they will be wearing shorts and I'd have them wear them lower on their legs- maybe it's because everyone here in MN is pasty white from the winter still lol) but I will for sure work on those! I'll get some girls to model the bows. Maybe I could find someone with a kid to even model them on a child.
This helps a lot Ian thanks!

Re: Hello :)

Elisa- Thank you for the advice! I went out and bought some more supplies for easter and memorial day! I think after saint patricks day I'll buy of bunch of supplies on sale so I am able to do next year at a cheaper cost! Also great idea to keep the seasonal bows up at the top! I'm still trying hard to market at Greeks (sorority girls) so should I keep one greek bow up at the top?

Thanks funny you mentioned the school colors bows because I just made a few for my school colors, I want to market around to see which schools would be interested in those types of bows so then I can add lettering onto them bows- having a bow that says U of M would probably sell better than just plain school colors, what do you think? The only really hard thing about that is just getting into the market - how could i market to high schoolers that may not use etsy as much?
