Blunt Critique

I need someone to critique my shop. I want you to tell me exactly what comes to your mind with 0 consideration for my feelings. It's hard on etsy to get honesty because we all want each other to do well, but I thrive better with complete honesty. Any advice/opinions would be welcomed with open arms!

Re: Blunt Critique

Ok, so you want a blunt critique. Here goes.

First impressions:

Yikes! (looking at the Frankenstein's monster on the home page). Gah! Don't know if I want to be on this page. Kinda freeked out a bit by some of this art work... This isn't my kind of thing. (After continued browsing...) Hmm, yeah there's a few pieces I like here. Like this one: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/129057209/determined-expressionist-print-11x14?ref=shop_home_active

Ok. First impressions over.

I think your pictures are amazing. Perfectly displayed jewelry and photos of your art pieces. Understanding that I am probably not your target audience, I didn't find any art pieces in your shop in particular that stood out to me as something I want to own. Brilliant pieces, but nothing spoke to me personally. If you want to go reach a broader audience, it might be worth trying a few new ideas. For myself, I'm a fan of inspirational posters and concepts. It might be fun to make some prints / posters with cool quotes from the people in your paintings or something like that to reach a broader audience.

I love the idea of throwing in magnets for free with purchases as an incentive. That's an idea which got me interested and if I had found something I wanted, I probably would have purchased just because there was that little extra thrown in.

Not that I'm an expert, but I think your shop is geared toward hipsters (just a guess) and as such, you might want to find some to ask as far as what you think they would buy and gear it more toward that market.

Anyway, those are my unbiased and inconsiderate thoughts on your shop. :D

Keep up the great work and you're sure to do well.

Best of luck!

Re: Blunt Critique

You definitely have a distinct style with your shop. With your celebrity items, it kind of seems like it's for a very specific buyer. Like I wouldn't just randomly buy a Bill Murray item. I would buy a random piece of jewelry. So I would either work on advertising to your target market or add a lot more items to give people more options to choose.

Re: Blunt Critique

Honestly? I think your shop is great! It kind of reminds me of my shop-- a little of this and a little of that. But with that being said, you still have a way of making things seem relatively cohesive with the style of your artwork. Sorry I don't have anything mean to say haha, it just goes to show that different people like different things!! Just make sure you are reaching the right people.... your shop definitely has a fun+edgy vibe, so go with that. I agree with Contempo Creations, since you have a bit of a range with your items, make sure you offer enough in each category so that someone who is into jewelry but not into bill murray (bill murray rules, by the way) will have something to look at (and hopefully purchase)!

sorry if this was too positive, but the style of your photography is great, your items are unique (and awesome), so it seems like you just need to get on your promotion game and market your butt off!!

Re: Blunt Critique

Okay, first off I really like the Frankenstein and other art that you offer. You have a very clear style But I think that your shop banner and Icon don't match it at all. I would suggest either designing something new using a similar style and color saturation or modify some of your existing work for it.

Yeah, that's about it.

Re: Blunt Critique

Wow, your shop looks great! I really love the color scheme of the whole site and your prices seem right. I like that your shop is full and that you filled out your About page. I like to read those.

The only advice I can give is that it might benefit you to make your icon one of your illustrations. It describes your shop much better than your face (at least until you get really famous!). Sometimes in forums I click on people's shops just because of their catchy icon.

Good luck!

Re: Blunt Critique

Thank you, Orianne! I'm glad you like the colors. Bold colors make me happy!

And yes, I've heard that before about my banner. I'm gonna try and incorporate some of my artwork into it so it'll look more cohesive. Thanks for the helpful tips!

Re: Blunt Critique

The Bill Murray products are my faves in your shop! I think it would be great if you had other celebs that fit into his fan base that had the pop art look. Maybe Steve Martin or Jeff Goldblum or even Will Ferrell? It might be cool if you got some hunky hollywood actors and turned their portraits into colorful pop art pieces too (I'm thinking Hugh Jackman, Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper...).

I think its neat that your shop offers a little of something for everyone, but the Bill Murray pop art speaks to me the most and I would personally like to see more celeb art with your style and flair.

Re: Blunt Critique

Being a former Warhol seller I dig your art.
I would like to see the photos of the smaller items made larger as they are hard to see.
I would also highly recommend either using a frame style that is suited to modern art or painting yours in one of the colours that match the artwork itself.
The picture of you done up as pop art would make a great logo for your banner. Happy sales~Lorraine
