questions for metal smiths...

i am going to have my engagement ring and wedding ring plated in either white gold or platinum. the engagement ring is yellow gold and the wedding ring is silver. i'm not trying to impress anyone, i just would like my rings to match.
so questions...
1)which would be better, white gold or platinum as far as wear, and durability?

2) what should i be aware of when doing this, and are there any questions i should ask the jeweler?

3) would going with platinum raise the price a lot?

any advise is welcome, and if you can think of anything i haven't, please let me know.

thank you very much.

Re: questions for metal smiths...

This is something you will need to do over and over again, so plan for that. Platinum is going to be much more expensive, always will. Also rings are plated with Rhodium not white gold, and the electroplating process will last about a year to three years (?) depending on the quality of the work. Establishing a good relationship with a reputable jeweler is so important. Do some research first so you know what to expect....Jewelers Vigilance Committee, Jewelers Board of Trade, and other groups will offer good information.
