Rookie Move: I need some advice...

I've over oxidized my brass jumprings (forgot about them all night) and now they're all that gorgeous green-patina. Great for a couple projects, yes. However, I did it to TWO DIFFERENT sizes, and to TWO GROSS of jumprings. Not good.

Does anyone know how I might be able to tone down that patina finish on them, without having to steel wool every. single. jump ring. ??

Again, I apologize in advance if this is in the way wrong place. Just lookin' for some advice. Thank you!

I don't know if it will work, but perhaps it is worth a try. Before I had a tumbler I would clean my sterling silver with a tin foil lined pot filled with water up to the line of the tin foil. I would heat the pot just before it boiled and put the entire pot in my sink with some jewelry added to it. Then I would add some baking soda. It will fizz up and that is why I put it in the sink. Make sure you rinse the jewelry real well before drying it.

It is worth a try. Perhaps you can do one piece and see how it works and then grab the steel wool. Good luck.

I would experiment..drop a few jumprings into vinegar..acetone...liquid flux, etc. Something acidic is bound to work. Beats scrubbing two gross jumprings!

Love those ideas! Yes! ANYTHING other than scrubbing two gross, yes. OR losing my money and just ordering all new ones!!

Thank you!

Tomato juice - it's an acid ( works on silver) and is green.

heat usually works to un patina things - heat them with the torch - but don't breathe the fumes

Ketchup also works if you don't have any tomato juice on hand. That's what I use to polish up my brass chainmaille after it gets dulled and brown from me handling it so much.
