Problems forming a cuff bracelet

Hello,

I have been trying to make a good, comfortable cuff bracelet for a 6 or 7 inch wrist. I've done paper models, then transferred to metal but can't seem to get them to lay comfortably around the wrist.

I use an oval bracelet mandrel to form them, usually use a 6 inch by 1 inch blank. Is this too large? I've tried tapering down the ends as well but they always feel awkward on. Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Problems forming a cuff bracelet

I'm just starting out with making and forming cuffs, but here's what works for me. I don't have a mandrel yet, so use a pipe. I hammer a curve just on the ends and try to leave the middle part flat or semi-flat. I also round out/slightly taper all of the ends. That works for up to 2". Make sure that when finished hammering, the entire bracelet is still even. If it is a bit uneven, it'll feel 'weird' when wearing it.

I also had to get used to wearing wide cuff bracelets. At first it felt strange, but now I regularly wear one that is 1.5" wide. The blanks I make are 1.5"x6".

P.S. I'm saving up for an oval bracelet mandrel :) I love my round ring mandrel.

Thank you so much! I think I'm making the bracelet too round or oval all around, so it fits very uncomfortably. I"ll try this out! I really appreciate your help!

And just a tip I was given by a friend who didn't have a mandrel - she used an Ax handle as her forming mandrel. Oval shaped.
