Photographing Moonstone...

...makes me want to run from my home screaming curses until I reach the nearest bar for a shot. Or five.

Any tips?

Thanks in advance :)

Generally it shows up better against a black background. Try setting your camera on a tripod, then rotating the piece until you see the best colour-flash, so you can capture the right angle on camera.

Wow, just took a look at your shop, and you did an excellent job with your labradorite photos! You should do the moonstone exactly the same except on black, and I'm sure they'll look gorgeous!

Re: Photographing Moonstone...

Moonstone is HARD.... But it can be done. Usually, those opalescent stones give me trouble, but I've found that if you put them against a black background and take the picture with no flash, at the right angle and in good sunlight, you can get a good picture.

Yep, I take mine in the sun and just keep moving it until I see a flash!

Re: Photographing Moonstone...

Thanks guys :D

That's pretty much exactly what I ended up doing. I've sold all of the moonstone items (mostly rings) that I listed so far. Soooo much easier to photograph the rings since I can have it on my hand & turn it into the light as needed. It's the pendants that are such bitches!

Re: Photographing Moonstone...

I agree with the above, I usually photograph moonstone in the sun and just keep moving till I get a lovely flash. I usually put them on a dark background too, helps show off the stone.
