Paper peeps: printer recommendations?

Hi all,

If you take a peek at my shop here you'll see I do a lot of wedding materials like table cards and menus etc. I am looking for a home printer that will run cardstock and handle a good volume of work- often I run 50 sheets at a time. I want a good quality but it doesn't necessarily have to be photo quality.

Right now I go to Fedex Kinkos because my jobs are generally too small and/or annoying lol to run at a print business...I print 5 of this, 50 of that, 2 of this...different stocks for each one etc. Think I am looking for something in between those big ol' Canon machines they use and a regular ol' desktop printer if that makes sense.

Any help/leads to help is so appreciated! I am spending tooooo much time and gas running to the printer!

Any recommendations?

Re: Paper peeps: printer recommendations?

I'm interested in the answers myself. However I can tell you what to stay away from because It's what I have - Epson Workforce 600.

I've always loved Epson printers, but this one will not accept card stock.
Seems to be a common complaint about it.

Re: Paper peeps: printer recommendations?

Epson does seem to be the way I am leaning but I really don't need the photo quality-lay-a-ton-of-ink-ness that most of their higher end printers have.

Good to know about that model. i definitely need one that likes cardstock.

Hope someone helps us out with an idea :)

Re: Paper peeps: printer recommendations?

I recently bought an Epson R2000. It handles thick paper really well - not one paper jam yet! My old HP jammed every other sheet. Sooooo glad I got the Epson! the best advice I can give you is to look for a printer with either a straight through paper path or one that only makes a slight bend. Stay away from printers where the paper makes a complete u-turn - thicker papers can't handle that.

Re: Paper peeps: printer recommendations?

I use a Canon Pixma Pro9000 Mark II. I put 150 lbs (or 180, I forget, but I will cehck for you when I get home) watercolor paper in it to make a large calendar and it worked BEAUTIFULLY! The only downside to it over Epson is that its ink is not as waterfast - it is my understand Epson uses pigment ink, which dries better than the ink Canon uses. Otherwise though, my cards come out beautifully. :) I usually print on 90 lbs paper, and so far no issues!

I love my canon printer:
Here it is new on ebay for about $200. It handles cardstock very well too. :)
