Is it me or the memory wire?

A few years ago I had no problem making loops at the end of a memory wire coil. It was stiff but do-able. So I bought new memory for bracelets and I can't loop it. Are there different brands and gauges?

I hope someone helps you with this. I don't use memory wire because I can never make a loop on the end.

Re: Is it me or the memory wire?

Finally, a response. Thank you Dawn. There appear to be two brands of wire available. I'll try the other brand. But this question still remains and I know that we are all not muscular giants. Is there a special tool? What are we missing??

Re: Is it me or the memory wire?

I didn't really have an answer, so wasn't posting. But I've been able to use memory wire, and curl the end using my needle nose pliers, as I recall - it's been quite a while. And so far as I know, I used the brand-name Memory Wire. So I'm thinking there must be more than one 'strength' or type.

Re: Is it me or the memory wire?

I have found that there are hardness differences from one batch to another from the same manufacturer.
But I have always made the end loops using a stronger tool, NOT the regular jewelry tools that are made for use with softer metals like silver or gold.
Use a tool for use on stainless steel. They are found at hardware stores and have thicker handles making them easier to apply strength to your work..

Re: Is it me or the memory wire?

I have a tool that looks something like a curling iron that forms the loops perfectly. I got it years ago, but I'm pretty sure it's specifically for memory wire (or stainless steel). Here's one that's similar: http://www.amazon.com/Eurotool-PLR-748-00-Pliers-Wire-looping/dp/B003DON5AC/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1...
