Help soldering accent balls

Hi...I'm making a bezel and I want to solder accent balls on as decoration. I've melted the balls (sterling silver) and am now going to solder them onto a backplate. I've filed them flat. Is the best way to solder them to put a tiny piece of solder next to the ball or should I try to melt solder on the ball itself and sweat solder it on? Thanks!

Because the balls are flattened I think that your idea to melt some solder on them is a good one, Kendra.

When I've added balls of silver I usually take a ball bur of similar diameter and make very slight depressions where I want them to sit. Then, as you have suggested, I've put the solder next to them and hit them with the torch from below and the side opposite from the solder.
