I recently started making jewelry from leather and I am in great need of some amazingly sharp, small, and strong scissors…I bought some off a website and they were no good. Can anyone recommend a pair?
Depending on thickness I've had success using either an x-acto or razor blade or the grey handled Fiskars micro tip scissor that is sometimes sold as a pruning tool.
I always use the razor sharp Fiskers scissors. They are not small but work for my items. Fiskers makes many styles and sizes of scissors so I am sure you can find a pair that will work for you. I buy them when I have a coupon from places like ACMoore, Michael's, and JoAnn's Fabrics.
For small and strong, I love my Klein electrician's scissors. They're especially nice for leather because one blade is serrated to hold wires and things, so they hold things firmly. And boy are they sharp!
For straight cuts I like to use a rotary blade and a metal ruler (lightly double sided taped down to the leather) and for everything else, razor blades (you can get a big box of them for cheap at Ace.
I agree qwith fiskers, and then buy the sharpening block too. Yeah, I know this account shows my handmade boxes, but chek my crudeco for recycled leather items.
I use a antique hole punch, because all the newer ones I have purchased do not hold up.
I work with garment/ light upholstery leather all the time, so the Fiskars of various sizes serve me well! Never liked rotary cutters on leather though. Would love to get a CS.Osborne pro rotary punch someday...Worth the $$$ if you use the tool often!
I use Fiskars too, with the pink ribber grip handle. I also have purchase the Frskar sharpener. JoAnn's is where I bought mine.......in 2009. Great tool.
WBT-1 Portable Electric Scissors Designed to be convenient and portable, this WBT-1 electric scissors are a great accessory no matter your industry as it can be implemented for almost any cutting job.
If you do anything with leather or with any other thick materials, I would suggest Fiskars products. Although they are expensive, they are very good and long lasting. If you have the opportunity to invest in only one good pair of scissors, I would definitely go with this one:
