Galvanic etching

I'm contemplating buying a rectifier for etching copper and silver. I don't actually know how to etch, but was wondering if anyone had a tutorial online using galvanic etching or could take a picture of their set up. Thank you!

If you see my flickr pics... http://www.flickr.com/photos/72634670@N00/sets/72157633684491796/

I use a car battery charger, cupric sulfate (root kill from home depot) , anode and cathode. Super easy to do...i used a very thick copper sheet (from industrial metal) as the cathode, the alligator clips are the anode.

Just noticed...we were in Anne's class together

I don't have the links anymore, but I know there are some tutorials on www.instructables.com . Search for "copper etching."

Re: Galvanic etching

When you etch silver, do you use steel instead of copper?

Re: Galvanic etching

no, the cathode is still the thick copper, but you use a different chemical - cupric nitrate aka copper nitric one source is Atlas Chemical. Silver etches faster than copper, so you have to watch it.
