Design execution question

Does anyone know how to go about adhering crushed gemstones or crushed pyrite to solid brass or small solid gold-filled components?
For example - if I wanted a solid gold filled rectangle piece to look like I half way dipped it into crushed tiny black raw pyrite. How would I attached the pyrite so it wouldn't come off?

A layer of resin might work if the components had a solid base ...if they had "walls" too, it would be that much better.
