Deoderizing Beads

How do you remove the smell of cigarette smoke from beads and stones? I purchased a large lot and they are beautiful but the smell is baaaad! Thanks!

put them outside for awhile.

try putting them in a shoebox with some baking soda and dried rosemary, that should help absorb the bad smell and give it a slightly better one :)

If you have some activated charcoal around (dry form) set them in an appropriate sized box and liberally sprinkle the charcoal over them and seal the box.

Within about 24 hours the smell should be gone.

Activated charcoal is what is used in water purification filters and is readily available at the pharmacy.

Put in a bag of kitty litter! and then change it a few times, say every 2-3 days. It will soak up the odor.

Whenever I purchase antique or vintage beads, that I know are not worth a monumental amount I place them in a small old bowl, add a little dish detergent and a small amount of ammonia and give them a few gentle swishes. You can see all of the dirt come off of them. Then rinse them well and place on an old dishtowel and pat dry and spread out on dry dishtowel and let them air dry. It really brigtens them up. Just be careful of precious stones.
