star seller

Jump to solution

Hi, my name is DOV and I have a women's clothing store, after a few days of opening the store, someone sent me a message wanting to advertise my clothes on Pinterest. Because of the lack of response to that irrelevant person, and it seems unfair to me, the star seller shows professional service and kindness to the customer, and here it is not about a human being who is a customer, but about someone who is trying to advertise me, I would like to be treated by Hall, please.
Thanks

@StylefoRyouDOV

The system is run automatically, there are millions of messages a day, Etsy does not read them.

Etsy says to get the star seller, you have to reply in time,  or mark as spam,

so reply in time, or mark as spam, or you won't get star seller

Etsy highlights them in BLUE, so you can't miss them

If I had to mark spam it probably wouldn't hurt me, wouldn't I? I am really upset about this, I invest so much and I will continue to invest even if I don't have a star seller, but here is something that is not fair in any way. Responding to my customers, they all received a response between 10 minutes and an hour, and I don't have to suffer because of the same guy who comes in to look for stores and end messages

The Star Seller program is fully automated. No-one reads the messages to determine who they are form or what they are about.  The system simply compares the time-stamps for receipt and response for each message received.  If you mark unsolicited messages like this as spam, the system will not count them.

You got a message that you didn’t respond to, since you didn’t respond or send it to spam, you got dinged for it like the rules said. What were you expecting to happen? The Star Seller has been around for a while now so everyone should know how it works by now.

I don't mean to sound unsympathetic to your experience, however, as a seller you should be aware of Etsy policies and programs. While I often disagree with Etsy and their decisions, they have communicated a lot about the star seller requirements and even made it easy to access from your dashboard.

You didn't respond to an email or mark it as spam and since you did not open your shop until February of this year, you haven't been a seller long enough to qualify as one of the requirements is:

  • You must also meet a minimum of 5 orders and $300 in sales during the 3-month review period, and you must have been on Etsy’s platform for 90 days since your first sale.

With that in mind, since you opened your store 2-9-23 that means you wouldn't even be eligible for star seller until 5-9-23.

Also, I have to question whether your items are handmade. Those exact images (faux leather mini) are all over aliexpress and other places on the internet which gives the impression that you are not handmade but are a reseller. And the next one googled says it is vintage but it is also sold on aliexpress and they have the exact same images as you are using. And the fairy dress photos appear not only on aliexpress as well as other sites, but multiple shops on Etsy are selling that exact item with the exact same photos.  I think it is safe to say that you are a reseller and your products do not qualify for listing on Etsy. Sometimes it is better not to draw attention to yourself.

Hey
I think what I am saying is very simple, why am I not responding to someone who is a customer and has not purchased anything from me, why should I suffer because of him? Can you give me a simple answer to my simple question? All services received a portion between 10 minutes and an hour!!! My shop has been open for almost five months

Have you read the rules for SSB?  Here is the answer for your "simple" question:

The rules CLEARLY state that all first (or new) messages must be replied to within 24 hours from both BUYERS AND SELLERS.

That means ALL MESSAGES regardless of sender - spam must be used if you do not answer.  I believe that's also within 24 hours.

You must be sewing 24/7 in order to make all those lovely clothes. Which by the way can be bought other places at lower prices.

You might not want to complain about not getting the SSB as it draws attention to your shop.

Also, you wouldn't be eligible for SSB due to your star rating.

You have many problems - an unfinished shop, no production partner, policies, etc.

IMO SSB is your smallest problem.

@StylefoRyouDOV  Because they sent you a message, which means they may become a customer someday. Or because you want the SS badge and know you won’t get it unless you answer them.
Why would you not answer a message someone sent you, unless it is hateful or rude? If it’s hateful then simply click it to spam.

Re: star seller

The simple answer is that has been to rule since Star Seller was implemented - to answer all first-time questions, or mark as spam.  Now messages are highlighted in blue on desktop, and with a blue dot on mobile - for all messages that require a response or spammage.

Clarifying the 3-month requirement - it starts from your first sale, not from when your shop opened.  I see your earliest review is from March, so guessing the sale was made in March or February, by the time you qualify for SS in another 2 months or so, that missing message that is stressing you out will probably no long count against you.

I agree with GroundZero, you shouldn't be drawing attention to yourself by complaining about something you should know about anyway. I found your clothes all over the place, even Walmart. At least you aren't claiming that you made them. After reading the forums for awhile now, it seems that Etsy is really cracking down on resellers, so if I was you, I'd stay off the forums where undoubtedly posters have reported your shop for reselling.

Re: star seller

I would be more concerned with a 1-star review than whether I had the star seller badge. I don't think much attention is paid at all to that badge.

A simple answer to your simple question: Every, I repeat, every person is important! They may not be a customer today but may decide to purchase a week, a month, or more down the road. If it is horrible and you don't choose to respond, then mark it as spam. If you don't respond or mark it as spam, Etsy will get their whips out and lash you down from the star seller podium. LOL  Face it, Etsy did nothing to you. You did it to yourself.
